I will never put down protein shakes again!!

So the other day some of you were posting about protein water and I have seen many posts like that in the past few months,  I have been wanting to try this protein water.  I mean, come on, anything has to be better then protein shakes right?

So I went to the Vitamin Shoppe like everyone said, got the Cyprosport (or whatever it is called) and bought it, opened it up and tasted it.  On the first taste I was pretty happy, like this is pretty good!  Not too bad.   Then I carried it with me and kept sipping it and it just became horrible!  It made me actually LIKE shakes!  LMAO  there is a phrase I never thought I would say

Today I took an Isooure to work, apple melon flavor, it was horrible!  Gave me a stomach ache.  Now what the heck am I going to do with 5 bottles of this stuff.  I guess I will try to add water to it to water it down.

Anyway, I know some people like the protein water, and it is a awesome option. I am just not one of them....but God do I wish I was!  I really wish I was.  However, I find the protein water so horrible that it makes the shakes taste good, so there is the up side!

I can tolerate the Isopure ones, though I don't love them.

Cytosport, though?  Um, I was stupid enough to send my partner to the store to buy some and he came home with a whole case.  Like a big flat box full of them.  I forget how many.  A bunch.

I know some people like them.  I just couldn't stand the aftertaste.  Before you try to water them down, let me just tell you that when I tried that, it did not improve the taste at all in my opinion.  It just meant I then had even more to drink.  I tried mixing Crystal Light in there too.  Didn't help me either.

Have you tried making protein ice cream?  That really saved me in the beginning.  It took me a long time to find some shakes I liked, but it was easy to make protein ice cream that I absolutely loved.  For several months, I made it every single evening.

You posted how much you didn't like the Cytosport ones yesterday even though Lora said she really liked them.  Lora said she like the tangerine flavor, so I have one of those I might try tomorrow.  The Isopure I think is worse then the Sport one.

Thanks for the advice on mixing it with water, your are totally right, it is just more to drink.  I guess I will just get down what I can each day little bit at a time to just use them up.

How the do you make this protein ice cream?  This I might need to give a try, I am willing to try anything when it comes to protein cause nothing seems to work for me....protein coffee, unflavored (that was really the worst) pre mixed, mix on your own.....but no protein ice cream yet.

But I must be getting enough protein in, I have lost almost 10lbs in 2 weeks!  It seems like it is falling off now, but I did have a month where my WL either stopped or slowed down quite a bit.  I guess this is pretty normal.

Well, you gotta buy an ice cream maker.  Mine is made by Cuisinart and it not very big.  I ordered it on Amazon, I think.  And I think I spent about $45 on it, but it was a couple years ago so I don't remember exactly.

You can find a whole bunch of recipes on theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com but here's what I do.

I put eight ounces skim milk in the blender and add a scoop of protein powder (usually vanilla).  My favorite protein ice cream is a coffee flavor and I make it with skim milk, vanilla protein and a spoonful of Maxwell House International sugar free decaf French vanilla cafe mix.  I blend it for just a few seconds until it's all mixed up good.

Then you pour it in the ice cream maker and turn it on.  I set the timer for 25 minutes.  When I want a really yummy treat, I stir in some sugar free chocolate chips.

I will have to look into the ice cream maker.  I think I have heard people in my support group say that you can add those sugar free syrups too.  I am going to look on amazon now!

Oh yeah, you can use sugar free syrups and you can put fruit in it, whatever you like.  Now, if you use skim milk, it's not going to be as reach and creamy as "real" ice cream.  To get something rich and creamy like that, you'd need to use some cream and some whole milk.  I was happy with the skim milk, though.  It's fun to play around with different recipes and get different flavors.

Kelly, does the protein ice cream have any of that protein taste and aftertaste? If not, I wonder why not? I am ordering an ice cream machine on Amazon as we speak! lol

It's really hard to answer that.  It probably depends in part on what brand of protein powder you use.  But also, I might think something has an aftertaste but you might not think so.

I'll tell you one thing I've learned.  If you like coffee flavor, putting a spoonful of Maxwell House International French vanilla cafe or other coffee mix does a fantastic job covering the protein smell/taste.  I can use just about any brand of vanilla protein powder in a coffee shake.

I tried three different protein ice cream recipes (two of them using the unflavored protein powder that i use all the time and have no problems with) and I hated all three of them.  Just fair warning that not everyone loves the protein ice cream...
