Alright got my GBS done on the 10th of aug. I am home now I had a sucessful surgery all seems to be well. I know you may wonder then the reason for the post? Is that normal I left the hospital on pureed foods. Only discomfort I have is bloating I think is due to my cycle. I do not have a sense of hunger. Head hunger sucks though. Ive lost 18lbs so far. Any advice on how to eat what I should be doing didnt get much from my PCM and its military so my surgeon is 3 hours a way. Hard to get in contact and I live in germany so u practically need a translator calling the hospital.
If I always feel full how do I know when to eat and when to stop? I don't have any pain at all I haven't dumped here is what I am eating. cottage cheese protein shakes apple sauce cream soups broths jello sugar free of course on everything water water water mashed tuna pudding mashed chicken. I have an awesome hubby!! Everything is going great a little to great... I feel like a hammer is gonna fall. I also eat a lot of sugar free fat free popsicles or just sugar free w/splenda fruit bars. If there is any suggestions to make this a little easier and so I can stop waiting for the stupid hammer. I was so prepared for the worst expeirence in my life. I was willing to suffer to get what my body needs but it sort of feels like the surgery didnt happen.

I am 4 weeks post op.  My doctor has me eating three pureed meals a day.  Consisting mostly of protein.  I am only allowed to eat no more than 2 ounces per meal.  You need to consume at least 64 ounces of fluid per day.

I hope that you are on a good multi-vitamin.

Hope this helps.

Tjhere's a good place on this site for you to check out. It tells you the recommended what to eat at what times, etc. It is
http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/nutritional-guidelines-after-roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-surgery.html
or just go to the main site for this RNY forum and look for nutritional information.

The hammer doesn't have to drop. We don't have real hunger for a while now while our bodies adjust to the surgery. Just make sure you are getting in your protein, fluids and take your vitamins and other supplements.

Good luck! Sorry you have so few resources there for you but the web and this site are huge resources for you to mine.

Some docs have people start pureed foods right away, some have people do liquids for a while first.  I don't think one way is necessarily better than the other.  I think docs generally recommend whatever they've seen work with other patients.

I would expect that you haven't dumped.  You shouldn't be eating much sugar right now, so nothing to dump on.

When I first had surgery, I was advised to eat about 1/4 cup of food and to eat four to six times a day.  And I was advised to supplement with protein shakes as needed in order to make sure I got at least 60 grams of protein a day.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

My surgeon sends most of her patients home from the hospital on soft foods (she does not require ANY pureed food stage), and most of her patients have no problem at all with that.

You should be measuring your food to be sure that you don;t overeat until the nerves heal and you can feel fullness and emptiness again.  If you had dumped already, I would be VERY concerned about why you were eating enough sugar to make yourself dump!

As far as the hammer"... MOST people have VERY little trouble eating and drinking right after surgery... you just see a lot of posts here from the people who ARE having trouble (precisely because they are having trouble... most people don't post just to say they are eating and drinking just fine unless they also have a question about something). There is no reason at all to expect RNY to be the "worst experience" of your life...  don't let the posts from the minority fo people who have trouble lead you to believe that their experiences are the norm!

I had the same fears - and was given some good advice on here. You are lucky, DON'T BORROW TROUBLE!

I had my surgery in June and was really concerned because there wasn't much that I didn't seem to tolerate. I was afraid I was doing something wrong! Nope, just very lucky in that respect. I do try to watch what I eat and beleive me, your tummy will let you know when it's FULL. I've only gotten sick once but the feeling was enough to stay in your mind..lol.

I eat lots of popsicles and very cold things and seem to be drinking water 24/7. Just be sure to get in your protein daily. It sounds like you are doing wonderful to me.

Good luck!!!

Thanks all for your insightful and helpful information. I will take your advice not to borrow trouble and I never thought of it that way. I guess I probably would have posted a lot more if there was trouble. TY so much for the input.
