This CAN'T be true.....

I did not see the post you are referring to, so I don't know who posted it, but it is BS.  As you said, as far as stretching the pouch (which is actually rather difficult to do becasue your pouch is amde form the least stretchy part of your stomach), it makes no difference whether you split your daily intake into 3 or 6 (or 12!) meals as long as you are not overstuffing yourself.  Also, there is NOT always food in the pouch. Unlike your stomach, the bottom of the pouch is open (the stoma and then the intestine). Any food that has not already passed through the pouch will get washed through the next time you drink any siginificant amount of liquid.

My program allows 3 meals a day.  No snacking.  The director of the weight loss clinic explained (paraphrased and in layman's terms) that people with screwed up metabolisms (most WLS patients) need 4-6 hour periods a day without food.  This helps your body look to your fat stores for fuel instead of food.  Small meals throughout the day or snacking will hamper this process.  Your body will adjust itself to living on fewer calories as long as you are feeding it throughout the day.

If I am hungry in between meals, I should drink more not snack.

For RNY patients, during the first year or so, this really works.  It does work for those that have reactive hypoglycemia.

I've never heard this before.

Are you saying it does or does not work for those with reactive hypoglycemia?

And do you have trouble getting enough protein and calories in just three meals, especially in the early days?

First, I think almost everyone with RH or regular hypoglycemia will tell you that eating only 3 times per day is NOT a viable option.... it simply does not keep the blood sugar levels stable enough.  There are many people like me who have eaten 6 times per day since almost the very beginning and did just fine both with losing AND maintaining their loss.

Second, you said "For RNY patients, during the first year or so, this really works."  I don't understand this statement. What is this implying about after the first year?!?

That does not make sense to me.  You need food to fuel your metabolism, if you go to long with out eating the metabolism shuts down.

but then you did state that RNY patients have messed up metabolisms.  I think that might be true for some people, but I know I got fat because I ate WAY WAY WAY too much.  It was all me!

But I do agree there are people who eat very little and still get heavy, this may apply to them.

I find the more often I eat the more I lose.  I hope it stays that way.

my bariatric people told me to eat three meals a day and if i got hungry in between to have a protien shake or bar which i do and it works just fine for me,, but i am not hypoglycemic either,,that is just not feasable for someone with rh to keep their blood sugars level enough .

i swallow alot of air normaly so i switched to a straw and that helps me alot,, i imagine some folks it works for and some folks it doesn't ,but my doctor definetly told me NO straws,,but ya gotta do what ya gotta do..

See, some of my small "meals" are a protein shake or protein bar.  So if you drink a protein shake or eat a protein bar in between some of the other stuff you eat, then I don't think it's accurate to say you only eat three meals a day.  I don't wanna argue over what we call the stuff we eat, a meal or a snack or whatever.  But eating a protein bar in between other food you eat is definitely enough for someone with reactive hypoglycemia to keep their blood sugar level.  At least it is enough for many people.

I call my first meal "commute" because I drink my 300 calorie 34 g protein shake in the car every morning....  even on the weekends it's how I start the day

I tend to eat something every 2-3 hours  I find I feel better and my food intake is way more controlled...

My sugeon and nut told me to eat as often as I need to in order to get my liquids and protien in during the first year.  After the first year, they recommend trying to go back to three meals a day.

My program says 3 meals no snacks. I spoke to my dietician and she said I can have snacks but not to exceed my total of 3 cups of food per day. So if I only have half a cup of something for breakfast, I can have a half cup snack later on.

Personally I wish I had a calorie goal to work with as well but my program doesn't provide that.
