Question for those who have had plastics

I am looking at eventually have a tummy tuck within the next 6-12 mths.  I am curious how much weight you lost from prior to the surgery to after?  I know it can probably vary depending on how big a person is.  I have lost 94 lbs (hope to lose another 20 before surgery to hit goal of 130 before plastics).  I just keep thinking it has to be pretty significant as my belly seems so flabby and "fat" (for someone almost normal..haha).

I was 142 when I had my tummy tuck and 128 about 6 weeks later.  I only had a small amount of skin removed and that does not weigh much.  I was selfpay and the surgeon said it was not worth it to spend $100 to have them weigh the skin he removed.  It was probably about a pound or so.

I just had no appetite after surgery and did not eat much.  My goal is 136.  I am almost 4 years out and stay between 142 and 144.  My surgeon recommends being within 10 pounds of where you plan to stay for life when you have surgery.  Going up or down more than 10 pounds starts to distort the surgery.

That's good to know about the up or down 10 pounds.  I've never heard that.

I lost 6 pounds when I had my panniculectomy done (it was very large, and the surgeon estimated it would weigh more than double that much based on the size, but was almost all skin with very little tissue/fat) but only lost 2 with my tummy tuck a year later because very little skin was removed.  (I actually lost as much with my arm surgery -- one pound off of each arm -- as I lost with the tummy tuck!)

I am pretty clueless about the surgeries, still need to research.  Maybe I am thinking about lipo as I feel so fatty still and the overhang of fat and skin (seems more fat than skin though).  I figured I would get the entire way around and hopefully they can take some of that fat with them.  Is this wishful thinking!!

The problem are that if you still have too much fat left:
1) the surgeon may not want to do the surgery at all if he does not think the outcome will be good (because his reputation, of course, rides on how your body looks afterward)
2) the surgeon will charge extra if you also want him to do lipo...
3) your body may or may not turn out as you expect... I looked at literally hundreds of pictures of panniculectomries and tummy tucks before I had mine done and the results were significantly better across the board when the women had very little fat left... and some of the pics where the surgeons did lipo actually left people looking a bit misshapen (not deformed, but much more like people who lost a bunch of weight and had skin chopped off than someone who had never been obese)

I did not do any lipo with any of my surgeries, but now I wish that I had paid to have the small amount of fat right around my belly button removed.  I also have a small pooch of residual fat at my waist and at the top of my thigh ONLY ON MY LEFT SIDE.  It's weird.  Just the thought of lipo makes me a bit queasy, but I feel asymmetrical so I may consider it down the road.

my lipo was included in my surgery he just did a bit on the upper tummy  (for me not enough but I will talk to him about that for next time)  I was already told my knees get lipoed the next time!

I was 256 the morning of RNY (9/22/09)
I was 155 at my plastics consult in March 2011
I was 150 exactly the morning of the tummy tuck and breast lift (6/23/11)
The skin weighed five pounds (I'm only 5'2" and percentage wise this was a lot and I went down 2 sizes)
I then 6 weeks later had a perforated ulcer and dropped TEN MORE POUNDS  (8/2/11)

this morning 8/25/11  I weighed about 138 pounds...

with the skin removal needed you CAN'T HIT GOAL...  see the surgeon get an idea from him how much your skin is weighing... I am not fretting the extra 5 pounds as I still have thighs and butt and back skin to be removed and that's another 3-5 pounds....

Thanks everyone.  Was the plastics painful?  I am not sure why I have it in my head that this will be super painful (probably because the pics look so painful).  How long did you take off from work with the tummy tuck/lipo/ breast lift?  I want the tummy and boobs done at the same time so it is good to hear you had them done together.  I am 150 right now, 5'4" and a size 10.  I really want to lose 20 more lbs before I have the plastics though.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but without a doubt the tummy tuck was THE MOST PAINFUL surgery I have ever had.

you have nearly 2 inches on me... and are the same weight I was at the tummy tuck.. btw

I took 5 weeks but I have a desk job and could have gone back after 3 weeks...

If you have been around 150 for a while go see a PS and get a consult... can't hurt!
