I feel fine one day - Lethargic the next. . . ..

I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this.  One day i feel great and can go and hang out all day.  The next I feel so lethargic i can hardly get out of bed.  I'm getting all of my fluids in daily.  ALthough its been mostly water because right now ice water is incredible to me and i can hardly stand the taste of much else.  I am also getting my protein in - usually 2 shakes a day.  That is also getting boring.  I have had applesauce, sf popsicles and sf jello, also soup broths and cream of chicken soups.  That is about the extent of what i have been eating.  Am i possibly not getting enough.  My husband thinks i'm going crazy because he says one day i'm fine and the next day i'm moody.  I don't understand - can someone help?

As much as sometimes we want to hear that somethings wrong - there really isn't. You're to expect mood swings for a hot second. Being exhausted after MAJOR surgery is normal; your body is using all its resources to heal. You may hate food for a bit, you may have your tastes change unexpectedly, and you won't be able to get in "enough" for a while but it doesn't stop you from trying to get to your goals in fluids & protein. I didn't feel remotely normal for the first 5 weeks and am grateful for it; going thru it helped me face some major mental hurdles and I feel the healthier for it!

Honey, you are only 2 weeks out from surgery, be EASY on yourself!!  I think what you're experiencing is the normal course. You did just have major surgery and your body is recovering.  Do you think you are overdoing it on the good days?   You will continue to have days when you are lethargic for a while, just go with ot and be gentle on yourself when those days come.  Make sure you are taking small frequent walks and keep trying to get your fluids and proteins in!  I think you are doing good for 2 wks out.  Don't foget that a lot of hormones are stored in fat and so they are being released and running rampant right now, this will give you mood swings!  Congratulations and keep plugging along, each day should be a bit better!

I napped every day for close to six weeks post op.  I was so exhausted.

And cranky?  You don't feel well, nothing tastes 'right'.  You are probably wanting a bite of something, anything, that doesn't make you wonder if it will sit right in your pouch.

Hang in there, it gets much better at 4 weeks out, and better everyday after that.

Yup this exact thing happened to me.  It is getting better now but still have down days.  I have more energy when I don't eat although I know I must... :)

Remember to take babysteps! We will learn more and more as we go, there is so much to absorb, don't let days you feel tired stress you out, just rest and take care of your body, it will let you know if you listen to it! If your tired take a nap its ok, even though we did extrememly well, it is major surgery and it does take time for our bodies to bounce back! One day at a time!!!

I'm having similar patterns as you, and my surgery was a day after yours. I suspect this is pretty normal for major surgery. There is also a huge psychological element we are dealing with as well, so overall we are going to be tired physically and mentally in these early weeks. I am just trying to take it easy on myself and rest, which is so hard - I live alone so I want to clean, do laundry, etc.!

I can on tolerate ICE COLD WATER in a glass.  Not anything plastic.  I was wondering what is wrong with me.  My mouth is so dry and I want something to taste.

Just remember you are only 2 weeks out from major surgery - you are supposed to be exhausted.  Just make sure you are getting in as much fluid and protein as possible, this will help your healing and give you more energy.  Dehydration can cause low blood pressure in turn causing dizziness and fatigue.

I am not sure what type of protein shakes you are drinking or how much protein is in them but many of us make our own and can get alot more protein that way - they taste much better too.  My protein shake tastes like a chocolate milk shake and has 45 grams of protein.  I also make protein hot chocolate and that has 35 grams of protein. Drinking these 2 times per day are great for protein levels at the beginning and also give you tons of fluids - they are both 20 ounces of fluids each.

Chocolate Monkey

8 ounces of milk (I use vanilla soy milk but you can use FF lactaid or FF milk)
2 tablespoons of SF chocolate syrup (I use Torani or Davinci)
5 - 6 ice cubes
1 1/2 scoops of chocolate protein powder ( I use 100% whey protein - ProPerformance from GNC - red package)
2 heaping tablespoons of SF chocolate pudding powder
1 sliced banana

Put it all in a blender and mix for approx. 45 seconds until smooth.  this is absolutely delicious and have 45 grams  of protein.  I use a single serve blender and get no foam at all.

Protein Hot Chocolate

Make hot chocolate as usual - Swiss Miss Sensibly Sweet 60 calorie packs (25 calorie packs you need to use 2).  In a separate bowl, take 1  1/2 scoops of chocolate protein powder (same as above) and add 1/3 of  a cup of cool water = mix until smooth.  Take the protein mixture and add to the hot chocolate and mix.  Add some milk to taste.  This is delicious and gives you 35 grams of protein.

You can also get the little packets of SF powders to add to a water bottle.  They make drinking water much easier. I personally like the SF snapple, fruit punch  - many like the crystal light.

If you are allowed applesauce, can you have yogurt yet?  On my program they were allowed at the same point.  What about tomato soup?  Cambells makes a great creamy tomato soup - I Lived on that at the beginning.
I hope this helps.
