For those who think they want to run!

Well I hit a major milestone that last year I never even thought of doing.  This time Last year I had signed up for my first 5K and was just hoping to finish without someone calling 911.  I have spent many hours the past year at the gym on the streets and trails logging miles.  This past Saturday marked a major milestone in my quest to do more and be better.  I ran 13 miles non stop, yes it seemed almost impossible as I took the first steps into the early morning darkness but 2 hours and 40 minutes later it was done.  They weren't my fastest miles but they have given me the knowledge that I can finish the 15K and 2 half marathons I have planned in the next 3 months.

So for those who don't think they can run, don't short change yourself on what you are capable of.  Yes you may not be the fastest runner or be able to run a mile to start with, but if you stick to it you will suprose yourself with what you can accomplish.

Oh and I did this the same week we brought home my new baby girl

Thanks, Paul.  You always inspire me and have taught me to savor the best rewards of having surgery.  Being an active parent, setting goals and reaching them, and never giving up!  Congratulations on all your success, especially the new baby.  Keep working hard.

I wont be cleared to run for a bit yet but I sure am walking like a mad lady. I want to train for The Bear in linville, nc during the grandfather mountain Highland games. So far the only person who think s I can do it is my hubby. Everyone else tells me YEA RIGHT.

I ran 5 miles the other day without stopping!!!! You are so right about just starting and pushing myself bit by bit! A year and a half ago I couldn't run a block!

So congratulations to you on two counts!

Way to go Paul!!! My company had their annual 5K in marietta again last weekend, and for the 3rd year in a row, I was a volunteer only. I've decided next year, I'm not just walking it... I'm running! My hubby came in 4th in his age bracket at 24:50, so I'll see if i can keep up with him!

Way to go, and congrats on the new baby too!!!

Congratulations on your baby and the running.  I want to run a 5K in Oct.  I have been training all summer.  My biggest fear is that I will be the slowest one out there.

Who cares if you are the slowest one out there. FInishing is the biggest victory.  Even if you come in last you still did better than those who never tried.  Your first 5K should be about a sense of accomplishment no matter how long it takes you.
