Brief update on labs ~ waiting for a copy
I had iron infusions in July so needed a follow up draw to see where I'm standing now. I didn't ask a lot of questions since they are putting them in the mail today.
This is what I do know:
Ferritin prior to infusion was a 12, iron sat was 18; now ferritin is at 98 so I'll keep pushing the iron I'm currently taking and adjust as needed.
B-12 - was told it was "awesome" and I don't need to take so much per day *sigh*
Vitamin D - 98. The nurse practitioner said she's never seen any ones so good and asked how much I take. When I told her 10,000 iu per day she about **** her pants and said the suggested daily intake is 1000-2000 iu a day. I REMINDED her I malabsorb and she still thinks I need to cut back. Thankyouverymuch but no thanks.
I didn't run an entire panel of what I normally run since I had them drawn in late June but figured I'd get another look at my B-12 and D since I was being poked anyway. I'm interested in the H and H, TBIC, iron sat % and iron. I don't trust them totally hence give me my copy please!

I never trust them when they say B12 is "awesome" because we really need it above 550 and I like mine at least 1000 and they will say it's just great at 500 or lowever.

I had labs on June 26th so this one is not a complete set, it was to check my iron levels. I'm not changing squat on the amount of D I take. Mine had gotten down to low 60s in 2009 and I started taking 50000 IU a day and retested. It got over 100 and speaking to Vitalady I decided to go to the 10000 per day and see what happened. It's been staying in the upper 80s, low 90s since. I wasn't expecting 98 hence why I want to keep copies also.
I'm 6 1/2 years post-op I've done lots of supplement changes in amounts since I've had surgery and I do get them at least once a year, sometimes twice depending on how I'm feeling and what I'm experiencing.

So, advising people to take it more than 2 or 3 times per week isnt' a good idea. I have seen many people on here with levels in 200's and 300's from taking daily doses.
I was taking 50000 iu per day when mine initially dropped to the upper 30s and got it back up to close to 100 fairly quickly (wasn't taking D at all prior to the drop). This was before they were informing RNYers we needed D too. The 10000 a day is keeping it up so unless it changes I'll stay on this routine.
There are definitely many medical personnel that still don't get malabsorption and our needs.

My ferritin got from 10 to 93. And iron saturation from 15 to 30. Other levels are good. 9got the results)
Thanks for your help and incurigements to get the ifiusions. They do work.
NTW: based on my results - my hematologist want to check if I am simply not absorbing - or - if I have a "leak" (small). for for next 5 months he asked me not to take any additional iron supplements. The drop in my ferritin over next 5 months will show him if I am losing blood anywhere.
