for those of you worried about post-op "weight gain"
I weighed myself before I went in for surgery Tuesday morning, and then I weighed myself again this morning. I had the standard saline IV for a little over 24 hours. Between the swelling in my belly (which is considerable since she did a lot of "poking around" to try to make sure there was ntohign going except the problem with the bowel and adhesions) I "gained" 14 pounds! Since I ahve only had gthe equivalent of one meal and one snack in between those two weighings, all 14 pounds are swelling and water weight. So... for thsoe of you very early post-ops and those about to go in for surgery, hopefully this will show you exactly how much "weight" you can gain just because of surgery... and it may take a week or so to get rid of it all.
I have the same pair of shorts in a size 12 and a size 14 (the waist in these shorts is smaller than most, so my normal size 10 in these will button but aren't very comfortable)). I wore the size 14s in to the hospital, knowing that I would have some swelling in my belly coming home. I have so much swelling that even the size 14s would not zip completely let alone button up!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Sorry, I originally only posted on the main board... but posted here a bit ago

Apparently it only hurt under conditions that would put more stress on the intestine so that it would pull more than other times (dense protein meals or a buildup of food were the suggested reasons).

Still in a lot of pain from the huge incision (breast bone to navel), of course, but ok other than that I'm doing fine. Sleeping a lot (which is good because I didn't slep much the night befopre surgery or the night in the hospital).
