OMG! Yesterday i wanted some fried catfish so bad I could smell and taste it.

Would it be so bad to have fried fish or chicken even if it's friend in olive or canola oil which is healthier than the other oils?

Or would I be playing with fire? I stopped doing fried foods like 5 months before my surgery but now every blue moon I want a piece of chicken or fish.

Help me out here people.....anybody eating any fried foods?

I will have a couple bites of fried food when I have a taste for it.  It does not sit well in the pouch so 1 or 2 bites is enough.

I just fried catfish the other day... it was delicious! I made sure to use canola oil (not deep fried though-- just pan fried in a nonstick skillet) and very lightly "breaded" it with bread crumbs that I seasoned with Old Bay and ground black pepper. When it was done frying, I made sure to drain it very well on paper towels.

I don't usually use breading or frying techniques for the added calories/fat/carbs, but I'm in PMS mode and this sure hit the spot. I only had a few bites (gave the rest to fiance) but boy was it delicious!

Honestly, I find when you deny yourself something that you really want then you tend to over eat it.  If you have a bite or two once in a while when you're really craving it hits the spot for me and I'm fine with it.  Now this is me, it will trigger more cravings with others.  I love fried chicken and french fries, but now it makes me sick after a bite or two so I am okay with not having it anymore.  That doesn't mean it sure doesn't smell good though.

You don't list your surgery so I will go with this:

If you had a VSG or RNY then have a few bites. If you deny yourself totally you might just keep craving it and then binge. It happens to a lot of people.

If you had a lap band I say the same thing but be careful. Make sure it can get through your band with no problems. Eat it very slowly.

If you had the DS well then GO FOR IT!!! It is health food for us. We don't absorb enough of the fat to worry about it. You might want to be careful of the breading but other than that, ENJOY.

I can't don't deep fried food. A bite or two and that's it. When we do have fish or any other seafood, I will broil/bake mine and fry DH and DS. Then have a bite of theirs I will pan fry mine sometimes, but use just enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
It's a great day to be alive.
