Just wondering

Well this week has been frustrating.  I have been waiting for an approval from my insurance company, which according to my surgeon's office, usually only takes one week and it has been two.  Anyhow, I hit a plateau and I am sure it was stress related.  Well this morning I got on the scale and lost 1.6 lbs, for a grand total of 31.8 lbs since I started this journey three months ago.  I guess at least the weight is still going down, rather than up.

I have a question for the people that have had their surgery.  I would like to know what food you miss the most and did you eat that, as a last supper food, before your surgery.  I have so many foods I like but they have so many calories and carbohydrates that I don't know if I want to test my will power prior to my surgery.  I guess I am afraid I will go backwards and not be as strong as I have been on my presurgical diet.

Anyhow, I was just wondering.  Thank you all for your help, it is greatly appreciated, especially the encouragement.  It is frustrating when things don't go the way you want but if I come on here, I am sure to get somebody to let you know that you are not the only one going through it and that you are not alone.  Again, thanks....

The food I miss the most?  I don't think there are any foods I miss.  I can still eat pretty much any food I like.  I guess once in a while I miss being able to eat half a large pizza by myself, but I'm generally satisfied with the one slice I eat now.  Maybe once in a while I miss eating a whole pint of Ben and Jerry's for dinner, but most of the time I've happy with a few bites or with a larger portion of no sugar added protein ice cream.

You don't need to have a last supper.  I promise you, you will get to eat supper every day after your surgery.  Minus a few weeks immediately post op when you'll be on full liquids and pureed foods.

I didn't do a last supper. My doctor did not require a pre op liquid diet, just low carb, and my insurance journey had taken 18 months. I did NOT want to mess anything up or put my surgery at risk since her (the doctor's) requirements had been so modest.

What I did do was have a final slice of pizza at Costco. I hate to think how many pounds I gained from eating pizza over the years. But that last slice was actually dry and not tasty at all, so I didn't miss it for a long, long time.

Today I am able to pretty much eat what I want - I do avoid sugar and refined carbs, but don't miss these. I've found good substitutions and view my pouch as valuable real estate - no room for junk!!!! I am maintaining at 98-103 lbs. lost almost 2 1/2 years out, so it works for me!

One of my passions is artisan sourdough European style bread.  I took a class from a master baker, so I make croissants and bread to rival most bakeries.  I will miss those, as it is hard to make 1 slice of bread or one croissant.  It was sad the day I let the sourdough starter die.   I'll still make the breads for the holiday season when we have lots of guests, and I can get by with one bite.

Like Kelly, there aren't really any foods I miss, because I can eat almost anything... I just eat the less healthy things in small amounts and only occasionally.  I guess maybe I sort of miss onion rings, but mostly because they are one of only 5 things that make me physically ill since surgery.

My "last supper" was my family birthday dinner (we did it a week early because my surgery was the day before my birthday).  We drove to Columbus (1.5 hours away) and went to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse... I had filet mignon (my favorite red meat), broccoli au gratin, mashed potatoes, and creme brulee (my favorite) for dessert.

So far I don't really miss any food till I see it. I just started my step 3 diet so I'm getting texture finally. I think I will miss being able to have whatever I want whenever.....but that's what got me here in the first place.lol
Also I wasn't on any diet prior to surgery so my last supper was honey garlic chicken from the local Chinese restaurant. Mmm......
