Is water more important after surgery than it is now? If so, why? I know we should all keep hydrated. But quite honestly I dont now. Why is it more important after surgery?

Hydration is important both before and after surgery. BUT (and there's always one of those, right?) the problem with staying hydrated after surgery is that it is much, much more difficult to ingest and consume the necessary amount of fluids at one time. There'll usually be no gulping down of liquids like we did pre-surgery because our pipes and pouches just can't handle it. So that's why there's the constant reminder to sip, sip, sip. Not because hydration has taken on some new higher meaning (it's always important), but just because the logistics of getting in 64 oz (minimum) of fluid/water per day is so much more difficult (and important!) when you can only intake about a sip at a time.
