Frustrated with Psych office!

I am in the process of going for approval to have by revision surgery with 3 appointments with the NUT and blood work.  I've completed everything and finished the last appointment with the Psych and it's a month later and the damn Psychiatrist still hasn't sent my clearence to the surgeon so they can submit to the insurance company.   I called them this week and asked, nicely, how long it usually takes... the receptionist told me the doctor has been busy and she will work on it.  I asked if it typically takes a month.. she couldn't answer me.   Meanwhile I want to a support group and ran into a man who was starting the group when I was finishing and he already finished and had his clearence sent to the surgeon!  WTF!!!!!    I'm so annoyed!

Sorry for the rant..................

So does anyone have experience with a hold up like this?  Will I have more appointments to take once I receive an approval?  I need to try to schedule this around Christmas so I don't miss any classes at school................ggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Perhaps you should just show up at their office in the morning and tell the receptionist you need the psychiatrists report and/or a copy of whatever records he made of your visit.  When she says it's not ready yet, say "OK, I can wait."  Sit down in the waiting room with a book and every 15 mintues or so get up to ask the receptionist if the report is ready yet.  Ask politely, but loud enough for other patients in the waiting room to know that you've been waiting for a month for a report.

I actually did go down there Tuesday after work and asked but got the reply that she was working on it....I'm going to call again tomorrow... and I'll call everyday and show up when I can until she sends it.  I think it's rediculous that it should take this long.  I can understand people being busy.  I would have accepted a week or maybe two but not a whole month.

The whole process was useless and a waste of money.  Most of the information they gave to the group I had to attend was pre-op patients. Since I already have a band and can't eat normal protein because of complications I really did not learn anything from the meetings. I just wasted money I counldn't afford right now.

It is ridiculous.  Typically, the report does not need to be very long at all.  Mine said something like "Kelly has a hisotry of major depression and PTSD, for which she has been in treatment with me for approximately four years.  Her condition is currently stable on medication.  She is compliant with medications and other treatment recommendations.  In addition to being seen regularly in my office, she sees a psychologist for therapy one to two times per week.  I believe she is a good candidate for weight loss surgery."  Does it look like it would take a month to write that?

Wanna know something funny, though?  I had my regular psychiatrist do my psych eval, but basically I wrote down what I just wrote above, gave it to him, he said he agreed with it and asked his receptionist to type it up on letterhead and then signed it.

Good idea Kelly! I like that. I was lucky that my report saw sent to the dr 2 weeks after my psych test. The guy made it clear that it takes him about 2 weeks to score the test and write up his report but he wouldn't send it out until he was paid. If you paid thru your insurance or a flex spending account, make sure the check went to the right address or that he did receive it. I hope he sends your report soon.

Ask your surgeon if he has a therapist he works with to send patients to to get the eval. My surgeon does, and that really expedites things.

I got with the bariatric coordinator and had them give me a list of points they needed to see covered in the psych's letter.  That was extremely helpful.
