Thank you, I know parts of this but it helps so much to fully understand the reason for this.

GREAT POST!

It's good to know EXACTLY why and the reasoning behind it (anatomically speaking).

Thanks, Liz!

I follow the 30-20-30. No water 30 minutes before. Eat for no more than 20 minutes. Wait 30 minutes before drinking. This is per my doctor. Very good post something to keep in mind when I'm future out too. Thanks for looking out for us!

Why no water for 30 minutes before meals?

They told us it is to prepare your stomach by being empty of fluid. They say drinking right before washes out what little stomach acid(?) we have in there. They would like it prepared for the meal? So it won't have to work as hard to digest the food maybe?

Your thoughts?

I've never heard that it washes out the stomach acid.  That's something I never would have considered, either.  Thanks for telling me.  I don't know what I think.  I gotta do some research on that one.

My surgeon told me not to drink for 30 minutes before meals because the liquid would make my pouch "wet and slippery" so food would not stay in as long.  When I really thought about it, though, that makes no sense.  It's already wet in slippery in there.

I've also heard some people say not to drink right before eating because then you'd get full on liquids and wouldn't have room for your food.  That makes no sense either, since liquids don't stay in the pouch long at all.

But I've never heard the stomach acid thing.  I'm gonna check it out.

I knew the basics of this already, but it helps to know all of it.

This is something they should tell us when we have surgery. I for one, don't like to just be told to do or not to do something, I like knowing the reasons behind it.

Thanks!
