Tylenol does nothing for me.. it never has.  Pre-surgery Aleve was the only thing that would take care of my migraines.  Even more so then Imitrex, Maxmalt... Now if I get one, I have to take Vicodin. Thankfully that dont happen as often as they used to..

My surgeon did give me an okay for Tramadol (Ultram), but it is for pain and not an anti-inflamatory for my back.

I had adverse reaction to tramadol years ago.  But did call PCP yesterday who sent in a prescription for it.  I will try it later, with fingers crossed... but still need to find that anti-flammatory.  My organic nutritionist says Tumeric pills from Whole Foods, but those are blood thinners.  I have a bleeding disorder and cant take them.

Im such a pain... lol

Although I did see it posted here that Celebrex is in the "NO" column, I do prescribe it to my patients with Protonix for ulcer prophylaxis.  I also use tramadol, but that is for pain only and does not have anti-inflammatory properties.  SO sorry you don't have a good relationship with your surgeon.

My surgeon allows Nsaids like Advil and I've been taking them for 9 yrs as a post op. His instructions are always with food and for short periods of time. I've never had a problem with ulcers and neither have many of his other patients I'm in contact with. The new gel cap formulas
work better for us and many gastric bypass docs have loosened their stance on no nsaids since those came out. Many post ops have chronic pain or inflammation that can't be fixed with anything else, so they take them cautiously and keep in contact with their doc incse there is a problem. I take an advil when needed on a full stomach. My doc says at least yogurt or crackers if I haven't had a meal. Works for me and many others. CHeck and see if you can't tolerate it to take care of your pain and inflammation. I had cortisone shots but when they quit working after a while I went back to Advil.
Hope this helps.

Things actually CAN get worse if you get an ulcer in your (now "blind") remnant stomach.  Please get a perscription fro Nexium or something similar to protect your pouch and stomach from the NSAIDs if you are going to take them.

It also does NOT matter what form you take them in (pill, capsule, etc).  The problem is not the drugs coming into contact with your pouch, it is the effect of the NSAIDs in your bloodstream (it causes, among other things, the lining of the stomach to thin... thus posing a risk for ulcers).

I take 40mg of Protonix 2x daily and Carafte 4x daily..  I have had an ulcer since April that hasnt gone away.  Thats just ONE of the bazillion pain issues going on right now.

I walk every day for 45-60 minutes.. do stretching and yoga to help with hips.. I am at a breaking point as to how much more I can take.. If I can get the inflammation down, it would help alot..  even if I was pain free for an hour.. willing to start at that..

OK, let me take back my former post.  If you are already suffering from an ulcer, ABSOLUTELY NO anti-inflammatories for you!   PLEASE for your health do not take ALEVE!
