Head hunger is out of CONTROL!

So, 3 years ago I quit smoking.  It was so hard!  The first year all I thought about was smoking.  I cheated sometimes, not often, did things like smoke cigars and stuff.  Eventually the urge went away and I never think about it now.  In fact the thought of it really makes me sick.

So will that happen with head hunger?  It is out of control right now.  All I can think about is cake and donuts and bread.  I don't give in to these cravings and I'm not afraid that I will I just want them to go away.

I also notice that I am in that time of former "diets" where I have gone quite a while, done really well and this is about the time I would start to give in to craving and begin to return to my old eating habits.  This time I can't do that, so I know this is just a reaction and it is all in my head, but it is so hard.

What helps to fight head hunger?  Do I just have to live with it like I did the urge to smoke until it just goes away?  Ugh, I hate this!  Head hunger is way worse then real hunger!  At least I can get rid of real hunger pretty quick and easy.  Thanks for any advice and support.

Do whatever you can to distract yourself, try to change the channel in your head, keep yourself active and busy, and exercise a lot. Only stuff I can find that works for me when the HH hits...

You know what I did? I wallowed in it. I spent hours on food blogs looking at beautiful food pictures.  I would read menus of famous places and pick out what i would order. I read bariatric food blogs and tried new recipes.  I know it sounds crazy but it worked for me. Still does.
Also..sometimes when we are hungry...we need to eat. I'm not saying eating donuts but eating protein, a bit of fruit. Sometimes that stops the head hunger too..telling your body..yup we get to eat.

Deb I love your reply!  And I do the same thing, but I do it by watching those food shows about eating challenges like Man VS Food and he eats like a 90 ounce steak!  I sit there an think, "wow wish I could do that" know that I will never be able to do that again (and actually really glad I can't)  LOL

When I am really hungry I do eat, but that is the strange thing too, I can hardly eat anything!  It is like my pouch has shrunk.  I eat maybe 4 bits of anything and I am done.  I can't even get my calories in unless I take in some slider foods like low calorie popcorn and real fruit roll ups.  I guess that is a good thing too, but inside the devil in me just wants to eat alot of something bad.  I want THAT to go away.

Drink some water;  your body may be thirsty and the only way it knows to get your attention is
to make you hungry because you ALWAYS paid attention to the Hunger signal!

Drink the water anyway; you need it, then wait 20 minutes and get yourself a protein snack such
as a deli meat & cheese rollup w/mustard.

I had to find something to do that kept my hands busy so that I couldn't eat without messing it up.
That's why I do embroidery; one of the nice benefits are the nifty presents I give for weddings !!

It did go away in about a month.  Hang in there.

Head Hunger...what a great topic...I suffer from this daily and it seems to be getting worse for me on a daily basis.
I like what Lyn said about the water...IF I could remember to drink the water before reaching for food I think that would help.  Also keeping busy is a good thing also.
I have recently got back to my scrapbooking and crocheting.

I also would buy the book if someone would write one about Head Hunger.
lol
