When, when, when???
I had a laparoscopic gastric bypass on Tuesday, October 4th. I couldn't be happier at the time... but now I'm wondering,
1. When will I feel better
2. When does the pain go away
3. How long before the incision glue is gone
4. When can I sleep on my sides again
WHEN WHEN WHEN WHEN... when the hell will I start actually losing weight? My stomach feels bigger now than before the surgery, it actually feels likes my skin is stretching!!
I miss food, I understand that is normal... but more than anything, I miss being able to do things! I miss bending over, cleaning the house, driving, UGH!!
I'm BEYOND ready for things to get back to normal... I miss doing things!!
I have great friends and support people, some of whom have been through this!! But I feel like I'm all alone in my recovery... feels like its taking forever with little to no results thus far! I wasn't expecting miracles, but I wasnt expecting to feel fatter either!!!

My RNY was open, not lap, so I cannot address teh healing aspects, but I can tell you that it is VERY common with any type of RNY to have a lot of abdominal swelling post-op. Your insides were cut, stapled, cauterized, moved around, etc. and there is a lot of internal trauma. Just as with a broken bone, the body's response to the trauma is swelling and fluid retention which can last several weeks.

All I have to offer you is BIG HUGS! It will get better soon, and I know hearing that isn't going to help you NOW.
I guess my only advice is WALK! Walk walk walk walk walk! I started walking the day of surgery (as often as they would let me out of bed). Then, when I got home, I walked at least a mile a day (slowly at first) and got up to two miles a day in no time.
I had no gas issues, not a WHOLE lot of swelling.. I was ready to go back to work in like 2 weeks (although I had arranged for a month off.. and I did take it all, but I COULD have gone back after two weeks). I also lost 27 pounds in the first 9 days. Of course, then I hit a stall that lasted almost two weeks (be prepared.. it WILL happen and it IS normal).
Good luck to you and welcome to the loser's bench!!

Girl, you are going to need some patience here! lol Trust me, I hated not being able to drive and bend over and do things and eat!
In my case (a revision, so extra major surgery), it took me about 6-7 weeks before I could sleep on my side without it hurting. Most people can do it sooner than that though.
My stomach felt swollen and larger when I first had surgery too. Probably lasted about a month in my case.
Pain is individual, it takes longer for some of us than others.
Hope your healing is faster than mine was!!

I am 5.5 weeks post op and for me you will feel a lil better each day. The tiredness set in for me at 3 weeks as well as a stall, be prepared it happens to almost everyone post op and will pass!!!.
When does the pain go away? I didnt have a lot of pain, but i did have a lot of soreness, it took me to the 4 week mark to reduce that, i still have the occassional discomfort but pretty much i feel ok.
I had staples and they were taken out in 7 days, that helped alot as far as comfort.
I slept on my side from the beginning reall i would use a pillow to prop my belly on, much like a pregnant woman does.
The food thing is still a work in progress. I have struggled getting enough fluids and protein in. Be sur eto keep on target with these things and your vitamins. I can tell a big difference in the days that i get my protein and fluids and in the days i dont.
Hang int here you'll get there!!!
Welcome to the loser's bench and hugs to you hun!!!
