My surgery is scheduled for November 14th. I have a 10 month old son I have arrangements for the first two weeks. He currently weighs 19lbs. Am I going to have issues after that lifting and taking care of him? I'd also like to talk to other moms who have had the surgery with young children.

I just had my surgery on Oct 12th. I'm 27 years old and I have three kids. 5, 4 and 9 months at the time of surgery. I had my husband stay hom for the first week. then i had my friend come over for the week after that. Last weekend i was 2 1/2 weeks out since surgery and I was able to do all my housework and doing dishes and take care of my kids. I did not do it at the same pace as before surgery, but i was able to get it done. I'm still not quite at the place where i was before surgery as i'm sure that will come in time. I guess it also depends on your tolerance of discomfort. I was pretty uncomfortable when i had my help go home. I do now lift my son who is 9 months who weighs 18lbs. but my surgeon told me to sit on the couch have him crawl over to me lift him up and then stand up. or if i can crouch down and lift him on my side and then stand up. I hope this helps.

My husband went back to work the day after I came home from hospital and I looked after my 11 month old 25lb++ (he was 10lb at birth!!) son with no problems ...  I did as little lifting of him as possible and to be honest he was capable of "helping" me when I lifted him - it's not like they're a dead weight at that age.   I would NOT have lifted him while sleeping etc ...

When I had surgery, my kids were 13,11,9,8,3,2 yrs. I had my hubby home for one week, and my mom was on call for the following week, but I never called her because I felt so good. I didn't do any bathing/baths for kids (I let hubby do that at night) and the only major lifting was into highchair and crib. I did alot of stuff on the floor like changing diapers, getting down to their level instead of picking them up when they cried. You could get/borrow a portable high chair that sits on the floor so you wont need to lift him.

I just had surgery on 10/28/11 and I have a recently turned 1 year old who weighs 26lbs. He is my Big Boy! My mom is here and will be here until the 13th (next Sunday). I can honestly say that I can now pick him and take care of him pretty well on my own now. I do have a tough time if I am trying to walk with him. I definitely won't be able to go long distances with him on my hip like I used to for another week or so. I do have confidence that I will be able to care for him solo when my mom leaves. My DH is in the military and is away for a 6 week training, so he hasn't been home for any of this
