Beating myself up...

because i think i am eating way to much....i go to my doctors office for my 3 month check up tomorrow and a bit worried.  First off i am getting all my protein from food.  But the last time i was at the Docs office i was told i should be eating 1/4 cup 3 times a day.  And then they also tell me that i should be eating until i feel fulfilled so its conflicting.  And of course yes i am comparing myself to others which i know is TOTALLY wrong.  I KNOW this...lol   They also tell me not to count calories just eat sugar free/no fat (low fat) foods and not to read labels.  This is leaving things wide open because if you don't read labels how are you suppose to know if its low fat...dohhh so obviously i have to do what i feel is the right thing.  But my point is that i have been eating like 1/2 cup plus food 3 times a day and sometimes a small snack at night...been getting in less than 800 calories a day..getting 60 plus of protein.  So why do i feel so guilty like i am eating to much?  I drink 6 plus glasses of fluids a day also... do not exercise regularly but on my job i am on my feet and walking 6 hours a day.  I know i need to add exercise in to tone and plan to start TODAY.  I guess i am just rambling and frustrated with myself..i think i need to start listening to my body and eating until i am full and listening to my body for the cues that tell me i am full.  I was very much into this in months one and two but lost that...  thanks for listening...

Thanks for sharing!  It's comforting to know so many people have the same thoughts that are in my head.  I am 4 weeks today.  I am hungry all the time and really don't recognize a full feeling.  I'm really trying to follow the rules set by my doctor to a T but its tough.  I do only have three 'meals'.  No snacking at all.  Still,  I've only lost a pound in the last week.  How can that be when I'm only having 700 calories a day???  Trying to take advice and not pay attention to the scale, but, after all, that is one of the primary reasons for having this major surgery!

1/4 cup three times a day would not be enough protein or calories.

You're doing fine.  And I can't believe they would tell people not to read labels.  They should be teaching people how to read labels.

I can't believe they told you not to read labels- that is just ridiculous! This is supposed to help prepare you to live a healthy life, how can you do that if you don't read what you're putting into your body?!?!

You are only 3 months out, so you are doing great. Don't beat yourself up, that doesn't help- instead try to talk to yourself as if you were someone else. You would never talk to someone you love that way, right?

Focus on the things that you are doing right....which sounds like everything. Many people don't feel a sense of fullness (me!) right away, but their body gives them cues. Some people burp, sneeze, have a runny nose, hiccup- look for those cues that your stomach is full and then stop before you go overboard.

If you want to change things up- add in some fun exercise, and maybe drop those late night snacks (they can only lead to more snacking) and try to up your protein another 10-15grams.

Keep doing the hard work...it's paying off!

You are doing great.  I'm about 6 weeks ahead of you, and I still catch myself thinking I'm eating too much.  That usually happens when I stop tracking what I'm eating each day.   I was told I need at least 800 calories a day, so you are definitely not getting too many calories.  I really didn't do any exercise (except some walking****il last week, when my weight loss started slowing a little.  I decided it was time to get moving.

I think as it becomes easier to eat and things taste good again, I almost feel guilty for enjoying food, and if I'm enjoying the food, I must be eating too much. ..since that's my been my history.  It's hard to wrap my head around this whole journey sometimes!  Hang in there-you're doing fine!

Thanks all for the votes of confidence.  I really needed that.  I just think the key is water...eat your meal and then keep drinking between meals.   I seem to stay full until i start backing off right before a meal.  and i think i have started having some head hunger again.   I just wanted to hear for myself that i am not eating to much.  I know my choice of meals is great.  Say for instance tonight i had 4 oz of the Hormel very tender center cut pork roast, a tablespoon of this quinoa/brown rice i found at Costco and about 4 very small brussels sprouts.  And i am full.  but in a bit i will start getting hungry until i start drinking water..then i will be good.  Again...thanks for the advice...i appreciate it.

I think you're doing fine. My doc told me to eat 1 c 3x per day + 2 snacks and 1000 cal per day - this was at 3 weeks out... My plan called for 1/4-1/2 c of protein, 1/4-1/2 c veg and 1/4-1/2 c starch (in that order). I know I am full when I burp/hiccup. You are actually doing better than I am with getting all your fluids in and I am almost 5 months out.

No, not always. It really kinda depends on what I'm eating and if I'm having a small pouch day or a big pouch day. Some days I'm lucky to even eat 1/4 c and other days I can eat 1/2-3/4 c. I notice that I can eat more of "slider" foods (yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese, refried beans, etc.) than I can of dense proteins. I also notice that carb foods (always whole wheat, like crackers) go down much easier therefore I can eat a lot more of them too, so I really try to limit them. Of course lately I am enjoying eating laughing cow cheese on whole wheat crackers...I am addicted to those little cheese wedges! lol I try (but don't always succeed do to my work schedule) to eat a small meal/snack every 3-4 hours to try to get in more calories because I cannot eat the 1c my doc says I should eat. He also told me that I I should try to eat between 1000-1200 cal a day or my body would go into starvation mode and I wouldn't lose. It's really weird, but I do seem to lose more quickly/steadily when I eat more. I have not been exercising either due to my crazy work/school schedule and it doesn't seem to be affecting my weight loss any. I do however notice things moving south so I know I am going to have to start exercising at some point to tighten things up.
