Insomnia Too?
I had it early out. Not sure why probably all the changes going on with our bodies. My doc told me to take some melatonin you can get it at walmart OTC. i took one a night and would sleep like a baby with no side affects.

Yes it is true, we can have it. I have had it since just after surgery, although not all the time. My PCP finally gave me something for the nights that I just can't sleep. Do not be afraid of asking for help. This last Saturday I was up until 4 AM. I should have taken the pill. The next night I took my pill and had a great sleep. My physician says it has to do with the changes in your body that are happening very fast.
I called my doctor's office about 45 minutes ago and they say he won't prescribe anything. Something about the effects could be amplified... like the reason to stay away from alcohol. But then they told me to try using my pain meds (Lortab). So narcotics are okay but not a sleep aid? I see him next week... I'll argue it then I guess. Good thing I'm still off work because there's no way I could function with no sleep. :-(
The dr I did my sleep study with a year ago prescribes me Ambien because I've had chronic insomnia - mostly due to stress & anxiety - even preop but certainly got worse postop. However, I would not jump to that if you've not had a long history of insomnia. Try the melatonin like Cheryl suggested first, then up the ante.

I just had my surgery 11/14/11 and I have trouble sleeping also. I just figured I'm off my normal sleep schedule because I'm off leave but truthfully I would never be up this late! I sleep about 2 hours then I'm back up struggling to go back to sleep. I have to get up at 630am to take my kid to school every morning as well. I have to kick this before I go back to work.
Im over a year out from my revision from the band. Ive had insomnia since rny. It seems to come in spurts. I'll sleep for a couple weeks, followed by a week or two if insomnia. Ive asked my pcp and my surgeon for an Rx, but they wont give it to me. OTC sleeping pills work pretty well. They contain pretty much the same ingredients as Benadryl which makes me sleepy. I just get the generic brand or what ever is on sale and they dont usually cause a groggy feeling in the morning.
