when i was about 1 and a half months out  i started getting my appetite back.  Started getting hungry and stuff around meals.  But i noticed that about 2 hours after i eat i start getting this feeling..its really hard to explain but its like a heavy feeling like i have a huge bubble in me.  It starts out like that feeling of being hungry..that empty feeling but usually its like my chest is sort of tight and i feel like i have a bubble in me.  In my chest and in what i think is under my pouch.  I used to think i was hungry..because it sort of feels that way.  It doesn't hurt at all..no pressure...just feels odd.  I think i can feel the food releasing from my pouch because its right above my belly button also.  So i think i AM getting hungry and i think it IS the food moving out of my pouch. Anyone else feel this way?  My RN told me that lots of people have this sensation.....but never heard anyone here talk about it?  Does anyone understand what i am saying?? lol  thanks.

Sounds to me like you need to burp.

I was going to say, it sounds like you need to burp too.
I never have to worry about it because I always do. My husband even notices when I dont.... how sad is that  lol

Food slowly exits the pouch (envision a thick applesauce slowly dripping through a funnel), so it is not like the food stays for a certain period of time and then is released suddenly into the intestine, and much (if not all) of it would already be out of the pouch in 2 hours... so I cannot see how what you are feeling would be food moving through the stoma.  Also, you say that "I think i can feel the food releasing from my pouch because its right above my belly button also", but since your pouch is up under your breastbone, the intestine that it is attached to is also up there, not down by your belly button (and the food moves slowly through the intestine so you would not be able to feel the small amount of food from the same meal both up in the pouch area AND down in the portion of the intestine near the belly button... but perhaps what you are feeling down low is food from a PREVIOUS meal...?  Most poeple cannot feel food moving through their intestines, though...).

I felt something similar, which has slowly faded. From the day of surgery I
actually got a huge pain, similar to an intestinal cramp, right behind my
navel the minute food hit my mouth. It was nearly enough to make me not
want to eat or drink anything.  Gradually over 6 months the pain lessened
and now it's gone. My surgeon wasn't concerned and I've not had any
problems or complications. Perhaps it was an intestinal cramp for all
I know. As for the heavy feeling..... my guess is gas. I'm betting as you
get farther out, that will maybe go away as you get better at eating
without taking in too much air, and as your pouch gets less fussy.

thanks..but its not gas...i feel like this about the time i am ready to eat...so probably when i have stopped drinking and am getting ready for another meal.  i had some yogurt about 9:30 and have been feeling this way since about 11:30.  I had slowed down in my drinking.  I feel empty..like i am hungry.  I have felt this way every day for the last almost 2 months.  no pain..just a sort of empty feeling..or a bubble or a feeling like i am hungry..So i think its becuse i know i am going to be eating and have slowed my drinking because a meal is coming up then i probably am just hungry.  I don't really literally feel anything moving out of my pouch or through my intestines just that about 2 or 3 inches above my belly button i feel this whole sensation i am talking about.   i think i am in denial...and i just don't want to believe i could have a hungry feeling..ha!!

I get this exact feeling and interpret it as hunger too.  For me, it's definitely not the same hunger feeling I had pre-op, but it's the "it's time to eat" feeling.  Some people have called it heartburn but I've been taking prilosec regularly and it doesn't change it.

I am 5 weeks out and I know what you are talking about.  I had the pain around my belly button with or without food/water.  It bothered me to the extent that I was eating/drinking very little.  When I consulted my Dr., he said he thought it was maybe incisional strain. Maybe I carried something to heavy or twisted wrong.  He was kind of stumped at why it hurt w/ or w/o food.  Sometimes, I think I am eating alittle too much.  I start getting this heavy feeling.  I also start salivating alittle more.  Sometimes, I just have to relieve myself (vomit) a small amount and the feeling usually goes away.  I am just starting to get the full feeling, but I still have no desire to eat.  I don't get hungry feelings.  I also wonder if my pouch is irritated.  I also burp alot!!
I hope you are feeling better soon!!

its strange but i have no pain...just like raimie said its a heavy feeling...the best way i can describe it is when i used to get hungry..you get that really empty feeling and your stomach would growl..well its like i have that empty/heavy feeling..but i am not necessarily hungry.  i guess i think i am ignoring my signs of hunger though.  if i drink it goes away..and its usually about 2 hours after i eat..and its probably cause i have not had anything to drink for awhile..and its my bodies signal that i need food or water...i have not taken any prilosec or anything like that since 6 weeks out.  never had any problems with any foods...or never gotten sick...never gotten heart burn...never eat to much and had to vomit..never got foamies.. but chocolate milk and hot chocolate both SF bothered me..haven't had any for awhile so i should try them again.
