Dear Board -
I would just encourage people to remember that everyone is here to give and receive support, and that it is VERY easy to misinterpret the tone of written words. I do not know of anyone who comes here to hurt, be mean to, or "attack" or "shame" anyone... and if someone's post strikes you the wrong way, I would strongly encourage you to 1) take a deep breath and let the emotional response subside a bit, 2) re-read the post, keeping the above in mind, and 3) if you still feel that someone has "attacked" you (or whatever the issue is), send them a respectful but honest PM about it... you will almost always find that the problem is simply a misinterpretation of the tone of the post or a miscommunication based on the way things were worded.
If you get a negative response to your PM, you can always block that person -- and there are a number of cir****tances where it is appropriate self-care to do so -- but at least you will have made an attempt to resolve the conflict instead of spreading the drama. (Also keep in mind that even if you block someone, they can see your posts and replies if they log out and come to the forum as a guest...)
Going through the process of getting approved for surgery, having the surgery, and adjusting to post-op life is very stressful for everyone who goes through it... but emotions often run very high during the early stages of the process (general unhappiness from being obese, worry about the surgery or about post-op adjustments, the physical stress of surgery, post-op depression, etc.)... and it is a shame if people allow simple things to "get" to them and keep them from making the most of all support systems available.
