On-Q Pain Buster
I was wondering if it was doing anything but now hearing from you guys I bet it is. I have it until Thursday and Ill try to be more greatful for it. I would certainly rather carry a bag around than be in more pain. The times it bothers me the most is when I shower and sleep. I move ALOT in my sleep and got all tangled up in it last night.
I loved mine qwhen I had my open RNY and my hernia repair (and even paid $400 extra to ahve one when I had my tummy tuck). I never had any trouble with any of them getting tangled, though. The only time it was a problem was in the shower. I put it under my breast and let that hold it so I could ahve my hands free, LOL!
There is no need to wait to have a nurse remove it... it is not stitched in, just placed under the skin and when the ball is empty you can simply pull the tiny catheters out. It is completely painless.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I had one, but it didn't work. 24 hours after surgery it was a full as it was when they put it in, so the nurse took it out. I didn't feel any difference, which just confirms what the nurse said, it wasnt working for me.
If you can tell that it's deflating, then it's working and leave it in. If it's still a big hard ball, that hasn't changed at all, it's possible it's not working and taking it out would not impact you at all.

Just FYI, there are different "sizes" (where some contain more fluid than others) and the 72-hour ones don't noticably decrease in size for more than 24 hours... So even if you don't SEE or feel any significant deflation in 24 hours, it may still be working. My surgeon uses ones with less fluid for
lap surgeries than open surgeries, but some surgeons may use the larger ones even for lap procedures.
Sometimes they DO get messed up, though, of course.

I still have it in. It has deflated quite a bit. Im going to leave it in and let the nurse remove it and change the dressing like they want. If I had to do that for myself I would without hesitation. I dont mind checking in with the office at one week though, its kinda nice. [Even though it's an HOUR away]
