Update
Ive been getting out of the house since day 7 for a little shopping (walking).
On day 8 I had my first meal. Everything went great. No problems. (See blog)
Day 9 I had 1/4 C oatmeal and 1/2 C applesauce. Went down great, no different than pre-op except of course I ate ALOT less than usaul. I however did go back to bed because I was EXTREMLY tired. I slept for about 4 hours I think.
Last night I was "hungry" and had about 3 oz of. cheddard cheese in block form. It was delicious and hit the spot but, I think I went into that extreme tired coma again because I went to bed shortly after (8pm ish) and slept straight (DEEP SLEEP) til about 4 am when I woke up soaked in sweat but freezing.
I took a hot bath, put warm dry pj's on and went back to bed. I woke up again around 8am soaked again. Freezing again! I dried off with the hair dryer (hair was soaked) and put on my 3rd pair of pj's.
I took my temp and it was 97.9. Ive been having plently of fluids and protein. I had a small infection when they first removed the dressing. The nurse and I think its from being moist from sweat. The area is now dry and has no drainage.
Sooo... For Christmas breakfast I had scrambled eggs (2) and a tiny bit of ham cut up ultra fine and stirred into the eggs. Topped it with mozarella cheese (about 1/8 C).
I finished almost all of it in about 15 mins. I almost immediatly had to have a BM and had some cramping and chills.
I went to bed and slept for 4 hours! Without moving around!! This is the weird thing. I usaully flip and flop in bed. I did it on my first night home post-op. (and some people have to sleep in recliners) but, THIS sleep... was like a coma! I laid down on my back with my slippers on and my daughter covered me in 2 blankets. I woke up in the same position slippers still on 4 hours later.
With all that, I was late taking my daily meds. So took them and about 15 mins later got nauseaus and took a prescribed nausea pill (for the first time). That didnt help (maybe because it was last minute) so I had my first post-op vomiting experience. It was some liquid and 1 pill. The biggest one. Maybe it got stuck in my stoma?? It was starting to melt down and tasted awful!
Im gonna go super easy on myself for the rest of the day. I have the house to myself and am doing exactly what I hoped I would be doing this Christmas. Healing! I will be hydrating, sleeping, online and watching tv. As far as walking.. Ive been up and down the stairs a few times today and shuffling around the house.
I know alot of pre-ops and some others like the nitty gritty details so, there it is. Im copying and pasting to my blog here on OH.

Hi Liz. Sounds like everything is going pretty normal for you. That's a good thing! The sweats are a little weird, but I wouldn't be alarmed if there's no fever. Our bodies do some crazy things in the first couple of weeks of healing. And DEEP SLEEP is definitely one of them. I WISH I could take naps now like the ones I enjoyed in my first TWO MONTHS. I am glad you aren't having trouble with your new meals. But don't be surprised if you have difficulty eating the same quantities over the next couple of weeks, as your stomach's nerves heal you will start to feel the tightness when your pouch gets full. You may also want to keep an eye on your dairy consumption and see if it corresponds to those chills or cramping. A lot of folks develop temporary lactose intolerance at this stage. Good luck with your healing and Merry Christmas!
Thanks for you response. I dont think Im lactose intolerant. Yet anyway. Ive been doing skim milk in my shakes since day one and they make me feel great. I will pay close attention to my stomach as I heal and the nerves come back to life. I was surprised I could finish the oatmeal and applesauce. Tonights protein is defenitly a shake (33 gm protein powder 12 gm skim milk).
Not sure entirely because it normally cuts mine off too. But I imagine it's the personal made boarder I made to look christmasy.
It's like putting an exceptionally large word on page. It cannot jump to the next line easy and I think it is missing a few letters/characters. Place something like it in your signature and see if it helps. Repeat a long line of something like this:
O*o*O*o*O*o*

It is possible that the night sweats are the result of your hormones going wacky after surgery.
You had open surgery, so your body is working harder to heal than those who had lap surgery, so it is not surprising that you are sleeping quite a bit. Carbs (such as in the oatmeal) can cause the so-called "carb coma" (I personally have never experienced one), but you ate very little oatmeal and the cheese would not have had many carbs.
It is possible that he fat content was too high in the eggs/cheese/ham combination. The symptoms you described are typical for those of us who are sensitive to fat content post-op (and there was no shakiness, racing heart, etc. to indicate dumping... and what you ate was pretty much all protein, and protein does not cause dumping).
It sounds like you are just having many of the normal reactions some people have when they start expanding their foods. Limiting the non-dairy carbs and the fats just a bit more may help while your body gets used to eating again.
