One year Surgiversary on Jan 10th and struggling like crazy
My husband is the sameway. He is overweight and eats junk all too often. He has gone to the store and brought home candy and will say, "you want one?" I finally told him not to tempt me and if he wanted to bring me home something bring me cashews, almonds, fruit or gum.
Its great you are getting back on track. I agree with the other posters and think part of your weight gain is probably related to water weight.
good luck!

Thanks for letting me know that I am not alone in this! I seriously need to do some thinking and discussing with boyfriend and see if he will agree to keeping my house a candy free and carb free zone except for stuff that needs cooked like pasta, stuff I know I am not going to try to mindlessly eat a pieces of uncooked pasta lol.
I apologize if I am reading to much into your word choice (as a licensed professional counselor, it is something I am trained to pay attention to), but I am concerned by "see if he will agree to keeping my house a candy free and carb free zone". This is YOUR home and YOU make the rules. Please do not surrender your power to control your home environment to a new boyfriend.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I have to say that I agree with Lora. It's your house, your body and your decision.
One thing that I would like to add to all of the other comments though, is that you should not be too hard on yourself regardless of whether the couple of extra pounds is water weight or actual pounds from things that you ate recently. You have done a FABULOUS job of losing weight over the past year and you should be very proud of yourself for all that you have accomplished. Don't get hung up on the couple of extra pounds... be proud of all that you have lost! Stick to your plan and you will continue to do great.
Happy New Year!

Having struggled with food issues all my life, I'm starting to think there are times when the AA philosophy is appropriate. People who are recovering alcoholics do not need need other alcoholics in their life, offering to buy them drinks every day. I certainly don't need someone pushing sweets under my nose. Geez - society and the media do a good enough job at that.
Anyone knowing you've had WLS who still pushes candy on you needs a come to Jesus talk ASAP. Perhaps his problems are severe enough he can't face it? If so, he may need to be let go. You are important enough to not take that stuff.

We had the come to Jesus talk and he was asking what is and is not okay to be in the house. So ground rules have been set. He is overweight himself and I am thinking that I may end up needing to look for someone that healthier eating is their goal along with being more active. Time shall tell. I will NOT fail.
The guy just may not be the one for you. Unless he is uncomfortable with his weight and has struggled to lose, he most likely has no idea how you feel.
I am not knocking men, but being overweight means less to men ( for themselves) than it does to us. You will have to be very upfront about your struggle, and your personal goals. Being under 200 lbs may be your goal, or even to continue to lose more, and junk food should be a nono in your home.
Some people on here may say that our battle against weight is our own, and it's not fair to say keep the junk and unhealthy foods out of the home, but my husband knows what I've been through and that I can't go back to where I was. So keep good snacks, great food that you really like that fits the life you want for yourself, and feed it to him too! There are so many great recipes that are low carb that taste wonderful. I believe in eating, but I also believe that I have to remember my limits.
I'm 6 1/2 years out, and I know it can be difficult when other people are in a different mind-set about food and weight.
The guy may be the one, but not if he isn't willing to bypass the foods you have to bypass.
Best wishes!

That is so true that it means so much less to men! I poured my heart out to him telling him about my struggles and I still don't think that he grasps how HARD it is for me. I am going to see what the next month or so brings. My goal is to get down to 170 pounds and maintain there and I will make it!
That is wonderful that your husband is so supportive. Are there any specific sites you go to for low carb recipes? I just tend not to cook, eat lots of plain yogurt, boneless chicken breast with seasonings, etc. My bf is a good cook and that would be great if I could show him recipes that work for me.
