Doing it alone

I'm considering RNY. I'm single and my family lives 7 hours away. Has anyone done this by themselves?

Wow, that's mildly scary. For most of us, we are allowed - and even encouraged - to go for short walks as soon as we get home from the hospital. So if you don't have complications, and have a supermarket that you can walk to, it will be lonely but not much else.

If no nearby supermarket, you'll have to stock up in advance, and we can give lots of help on what to get.

But what worries me is complications. I'm healing great, thank God, but when my wife had RNY 7 years ago, one of the incisions got infected, and I had to disinfect it twice a day with some gauze and hydrogen peroxide. Pretty gross, and not fun. Friends can help with shopping, but this is a bit much. I have no idea what to suggest.

I don't want to scare you away, but this *IS* major abdominal surgery, and not to be taken lightly. I hope someone will come along with a more positive attitude to balance me out.
