I am scheduled for a revision from lap-band to RNY on January 30th.  My band slipped and it needs to come out.  I lost 90 pounds with the help of my band and have gained about 20 back in the past two months since it has been emptied.

I start my two week pre-op diet on Jan 16th.  I have unfortunately told my co-workers about the surgery and they are not supportive at all.  I do ultrasound and they are all medical professionals who are very concerned about the procedure, the mal-absorption afterward, complications that can happen.  I understand their concerns, but I cannot go back to over 300 pounds with high blood pressure and diabetes (they did not know me back then).  I know without another bariatric procedure I will re-gain and be back on a ton of meds again.  I would rather be taking supplements than BP and diabetes meds for the rest of my life.  So I appreciate the support this site has provided me.

Thank you all for sharing your journeys and your candid honesty.

Well, it is very common for people to have strong opinions about this surgery, whether they are in the medical profession or not!  We have all suffered from the endless negative comments through the journey.  I noticed they tend to get worse when you start to reach goal.  All the talk about regain.  I can't think of too many people who don't have some story they want to tell me about someone who has regained their weight and you know who is the worst!  MY MOM!  The closer I get to goal the worse she gets with stories of regain.  UGH!

Anyway, keep you chin up when they start their negative talk.  You will need support on you pre op diet, it can be hard.  Good luck!

I was 236 on date of surgery, very close to where you are now, and at 8 months out I am only 5 lbs from goal, so just stay focused....cause it works!

Hi! I am around the same weight you were when you had your surgery, just wondering if you had any other medical problems? Were you nervous? Did you have any complications?? :)

No I wasn't scared just excited. I didn't have any problems from the surgery. It got rid of my HBP and type 2 diabetes as well as taking care of all my lipid levels. I had buyers remorse in the beginning, like what did I do to my body but I got over that. Recently I found I have depression and that sucks but I am trying to get it in control. I don't know if it's related to sugury or not but it is possible it was there prior and I didn't know because I self medicated with food.

I had excellent results better then I ever expected and no problems so far. Hoping it stays that way. Good luck with yours

I too discovered my depression after losing about 75 pounds. I could no longer numb myself with food and needed to find healthier coping and relaxation strategies. Being aware that this can happen is a good thing. Get some help if it pops up in your world after surgery.

Take care
