I have been checking out different foods that will be good for me pre surgery and post surgery and decided to try Greek Yogurt.  I almost threw up with just one bite.  They were handing out samples with honey on them in Costco.  I have never been a fan of yogurt period.  I was only able to tolerate fat free Yoplait with fruit at the bottom.  What else can I do to the Greek yogurt to make it tolerable?  That bite of tang was really nasty.

Oh, thank you so much.  I so wanted to have the Greek yogurt for the protein value.

My wife and I are both have had RNY surgery. We each really like Greek yogurt with a ½ scoop of flavored protein powder and a heaping teaspoon of sugar free jello. All in all it’s not bad at all. Good luck to you.

stay away from the fruity/honey yogurt to much sugar..get the plain and mix in your own favorites...

use some 0% plain greek yogurt and some Sugar Free strawberry preserves... you can also cut up fresh fruit (strawberries / blueberries are my fave) but there is still the tang, just kind of a flavored tang lol

I have a hard time with the "tang" too... but I have found its an excellent food to add to other foods.

I use the nonfat plain kirkland brand.....When I make my refried beans, I use nonfat greek yogurt to mix in them in place of sour cream.. SOO YUMMY.... when I make my protein shakes, I put in some greek yogurt to thicken it up and it adds more protein.... this afternoon I used SF cheesecake pudding mix and instead of 2 cups of milk, I used 1 cup milk and 1 cup greek yogurt (and added 2 tablespoons of SF raspberry DaVinci syrup)... and the kids went crazy and gobbled it up...

Hubby made me like a monteray chicken soup and I put in the greek yogurt in place of sour cream... made it creamy and yummy.. and added protein....

I can't eat it plain either... but you can mix it into soo many savory recipes in the place of sour cream or even cream cheese and you can't even taste the "tang"..

good luck :))

I liked the different flavored ones before surgery. After surgery I played around mixing in different flavorings and splenda and whatnot. I found that I really like the brand fage 0 and just a bit of splenda. Just keep trying with the plain unflavored greek yogurts. Good luck!

I also could not take yogurt much less the Greek kind... However I found a great greek one Olympus (12 grams of protein) I only eat the vanilla and I buy it at Stop & Shop though I think Whole Foods carries it as well.
When I first started eating it I would add some splenda but now i eat it straight out of the cup. Also it is a bit pricey $1.99 for a 6oz container.. See if you can find it and I hope you like it

Thanks for the tip.  I will check at Fresh N' Easy market. They are a small healthy foods store and carry a good line of yogurts. We don't have a Whole Foods or a Stop & Shop around here. Last time I was in Fresh N' Easy I wasn't looking for yogurt, just vitamins.  I will have to pay closer attention now that I have found my way to better health.
