I did it!
RNY on 01/13/12
I had my surgery Friday the 13th and came home Sunday afternoon. A lot of stuff happened in the hospital that I didn't expect, like that horrible leak test. Not a painful test, but you have to drink this really revolting liquid and then get x-rayed to make sure there are no leaks. Yuck. Fortunately I have no leaks. My back got very sore from lying in one position in bed for so long, even though I tried to shift about. When my bowels started waking up I had tremendously strong cramps that had me in the fetal position. It was exhausting, too. So many people waking you up so often to check blood sugar and vitals and so forth. It was wonderful to get home yesterday to get a full night's sleep!
I have made a few mistakes--I ate my food too quickly and had to deal with the pain of it working its way down, but I know better now. All in all, it's Monday night and I'm feeling much better. Still stiff and sore but the pain is very manageable. I see nothing but good things ahead!

Congratulations!
I had an open procedure, so I wasn't allowed anything by mouth including ice chips for 2 days. By the time my Upper GI was done, I was so thirsty that the contrast I drank tasted like the Nectar of he Gods. I was hoping for a refill. LOL
Now keep following your doctors guidelines. The Vets say that what we do now lays the foundation for our future success.

I am glad you made it home safely. I am glad you have no leaks. It must be difficult for people to have to go back into surgery. My surgeon does the leak test in the OR so we sleep through it. I wonder why more surgeons don't do it right away like he does? Have you tried eating with a baby spoon to eat slower? I still use a little plate even this far out. I had a prescription for Lortab which is a pain reliever. I had to go back to work 6 days post op because I didn't tell anyone I had surgery. I was an accountant and worked the weekend and until the midnight hours the Monday before surgery to get my work done but I physically had to be in the office. I did basically nothing and the Lortab got rid of any pain I had. It sounds like everything is going well for you. I didn't have any complications either. Good health to you, Tri

I'm having my RNY surgery a week from today and am so excited it's ridiculous! Congrats on making it home pretty quickly despite the unexpected things that happened. I'm glad you're not in a lot of pain and seem to be feeling pretty upbeat! Best of luck to you and keep us posted with your progress! Laura
