Quick thought... Nutty NUT and SURGEON???

Just left my 9 month check with my NUT. She told me today...
1 ~ I should NEVER exceed 3/4 cups of food
2 ~ I should NEVER, EVER, EVER eat over 1000 calories. EVER...

Does this sound crazy??
I only have 13 pounds to get to goal. Once I'm at goal. And move into maintenance shouldn't my calories be increased? So I stop losing?

Help please. Confused...

Well, if I stuck to 1000 calories, I would have lost a lot more weight than I needed to or wanted to.  My goal was 140 and I had been eating 1200 calories a day but when I got down to 122, I increased that to 1500 because I did not want to lose any more.  I don't know where I would have ended if I stuck to 1000 calories - 110?  100?  That's too low for me, I am 5'4".

I asked my doc about my stoma, "maybe mine is too loose?"  I was asked, "can you eat more than a cup?" I answered yes.  "How about TWO cups?"  NOPE!  Then I was told I was fine.

I swim five days a week, for TWO hours a day, so I NEED at least 1200 calories, and I shoot for 120+ grams of protein.  My doctors (plural) and nutritionist agree that I NEED this much.

How much exercise do you do?  Have you used "realizemysuccess.com"?  It will calculate realistic calories burned based on your weight & food journal -- check it out!

I am 14 months out, perfect blood, and a consistent (their word) patient.  I still have a long way to go, but am happy with my consistent loses.  I take supplements, keep a food journal, and exercise DAILY (even on weekends), drink at least 80 oz of water daily.

Thanks for the thoughts....
I do exercise a couple days a week, nothing to crazy.
I drink 80 grams of protein a day.
I eat... Like a bird. About 5-600 cals a day. Plus 340 cals in protein.
She told me I shldnt go over 800 calories until I am a year out.
That's when I would move on to eat 1000 (forever...)
Im not far from my goal - if I follow this plan... I'm basically destined to go below my goal. I'm sure not a bad thing. But at that rate... I shouldn't have "bounce back" weight if I "can't" up my calories.

So strange how everyone's rules are different.
Thanks again

That is a low amount of calories to maintain for a full year.  You might permanently alter your metabolism by keeping your calories that low for so long... which will make it harder for you to MAINTAIN your weight loss once the caloric malabsorption is gone.  (If your metabolism is permanently lowered, you actually will be much MORE likely to have a bounceback.)

Your doctor is crazy and  your nut needs to go back to school. At 9 months out I was up to 3/4 of a cup of food per meal. (more soup than steak liquids I could do more). My doc has up on 1/4 cup at 3 months, 1/2 cup at 6 months 3/4 cup at 9 months and 1 cup to 1 1/4 cup per meal at one year out and forever after that. I'm 10 yrs out and I still do a cup to a cup and a quarter per meal (if I want to maintain). Our calories as per my surgeon (I was open RNY) are 300 at 3 months, 600 at 6 months, 900 at 9 months and 1000-1200 per day at one year (or when we hit goal) and forever after that. I stick to that roughly now to maintain and I have since hitting goal at about 10 or 11 months out. i have exceeded that amount and gone up to 2500-3000 for a few days when doing strenuous exercise. Rock climbing, competitive mountain biking, white water rafting, etc for days at a time will eat up calories and you can eat more. And you should. I increase or decrease my caloric intake daily depending on my activity level. You have to find out what works for you. Are you  in a suppport group locally? Find someone who had surgery about the same time as you and see where they are calories and portion wise. We all learn from each other. You'll stop losing when your body hits the weight it wants to be - we maintain after that. Keep coming here for advice. We try to help.

My dietitian didnt' give a calorie goal... just get the protein in from good sources, any "extra" eat veggies. They recommend a cup per meal, but I am already able to eat more than that and they are ok with it. *shrug*
