Alcohol and Me

I'm sure you've heard the slogan at AA; "First things first".  If you don't address the drinking, gaining weight will be the least of your problems.  It sounds (from your description) like you have the disease of alcoholism.  If you do, it will only get worse if you are drinking.

Someone else mentioned going to more meetings.  I'm sure you've heard 90 in 90.  If you want sobriety and all the good things that go with it, it's the way to go.

I know how hard it is.  I bounced around for 10 years before I realized that I was running out of chances.  That was over 26 years ago now.  Instead of working on my health and fretting about stalls, I would have been dead a long time ago had I not put down the drink 'one day at a time'.  If you were one of my buddy's I'd say 'Get your ass to a meeting'.  Consider it said.

Good luck and God bless.

Goldfish - saving your life seems to be the priority here.  What about long-term residential treatment.  If you don't have insurance or deep pockets, there may be some facilities in your area that offer treatment on a sliding fee scale.  Check on the following sebsite for their directory of services:  www.samhsa.gov or call them at 877-726-4727.  Local churches may also have information.  Good luck.

Guillermo,

( I love that name, by the way) Thanks for your input. I don' t have deep pockets but I do have excellent insurance. I am taking court mandated DUI classes because of a DUI arrest some months back. Its a ten week course and I'm right in the middle. I cannot change the dates of the classes or I would violate the terms of the court. Not an excuse but a reality. I'm sure a long term inpatient would be great for me and I continue to look at places I could go in a few weeks. Thanks again..

You might want to ask your lawyer if they could ask the court to let you go inpatient.

 Thanks All,

Jut a little update. Been sober for two months now. Eating more now then ever and eating a ton of sugar. ( something I've never done since the surgery). I know I'm craving the sugar. I continue to go to private counceling as well as a group. Actually started journaling my food this morning. So far so good. I wish I would get out and get some exercise. Probably gained about 10 lbs over the past two months.
I do feel good about not drinking. I've stopped shaking and no longer have to deal with the blackouts and sneaking and lying. Thngs are better at home. ( hard to have been any worse )
Thanks for all of the support and advice here. This has always been a great place for me to come and share and read all of these great messages.
