Poll: What weight is too low for your height

Hi,

Just curious. Just like we all have some sort of ideal weight in mind (or at least most of us) I was wondering if there was also a number based on your height that you thought was too low.

To me hitting the 120s this week is too low. I am looking at things to see if I could impove my maintenance plan, but I just moved cross country and am in the process of looking for a job etc. so I know it is also due to all the stress.

What is the number you don't want to hit?

Hi this is a really good topic, and I am 5 "11" I started out at 338lbs, and now I am down to 301lbs, I had my RNY on 12/29/2011, and By me being so tall I don't want to get lower than 185-190lbs, and that will be to the lowest! If I never make it to onderland I would be fine with me! I will be happy and satisfied to be in the low 200's! Good luck with the move and the job search, any time you make a life change it can be un settling. Just stay focused and it will all work out!

The "too low" threshold, for me, would be reaching the Underweight BMI. So that would be anything less than 104lbs, at 5"3. At over 9 months out, I really doubt I'd get that low.

I'm 5' tall, and most BMI guidelines suggest 98-110lbs is healthy. I think that's insane.

I was 120lbs as a senior in high school and looked pretty rockin'. Ten years and two kids later, I'd like to get to 130lbs, though I'd settle for 140.

I think anything under 120 would be terrifying to me. I can't even imagine it. I'm short, but thick-figured, and my surgeon recommended about 140lbs. I have a hard enough time trying to think of what 140 will look like, let alone anything lower.

It is not really the weight... but most - the body fat % - IMO.
How big is your frame - large bones, heavy bones, big muscles... etc... may determine what weight is right.
Also - have in mind that it is also important how you feel. If you feel that 120 is not enough - too low - you are probably right.
I am 5'4" and for me 145 was way too low.  I had probably 16% body fat, low blood pressure (most likely due to dehydration - I had to start getting more salt) and so on.

Some body fat % can be estimated. Some - really measured (a bit expensive).

Now I am at 24-28% body fat.  I am heavier than my lowest , but I am in much better shape.  My BP is higher, and I do not feel like like I am going to pass out when I get up from a chair or even a floor.

But remember - that most people have regain... 10-20 lbs.  I did...  First I could not keep the weight on, and struggled to stop losing , the suddenly, in year 3 I gained.    Now - I am more or less in maintenance.  Where I think I need to be... +/- 5 lbs..

I'm 5'4" and before I gained weight I weighed 97 pounds.  I'm older now and my doctor says bones get denser with the added weight because they have to carry all that extra around.  I wouldn't mind 110, but I'm shooting for 120.  I probably won't get there until I have a panny though.  I'd probably be pleased with 130-140 without surgery.

I'm 5'2 and thought originally that 150 would be good for me. I ended up getting to 126 and that was too small. I did get back up to the 128-135 range and go up and down with in that range depending on the day/week/ etc. I'm actually pretty happy in the 132 area. Anything less than 126 would be way to small even though I'd still be considered a normal weight.

I am 5 feet tall and weigh between 105 - 108 (at 109 right now because I ate too much crap this weekend!).  I once was at 103, and that was LOW!

I am quite happy at around 106 - 107.  My clothes fit perfect and I feel just right.

I think for some reason if I got back down to 103 or below, it would be too thin.  I looked really sickly  and bony at that weight.  It's crazy how I notice how much difference a couple of pounds in either direction make, yet I ignored the 100+ that got me here in the first place.
