Ok so my ins requires 4 months of medically supervised weightloss. That dr said 2400 cal a day. I went to the nutritionist she said 1200 cal a day with 80-100g of protein a day. She said to start following the barbaric surgery plan after surgery when all foods are tolerated. No eatingr and drinking no gum to just get used to what my new life will be. But 2400-1200 is a big difference. I am going w the nutritionist because she is a food dr lol my dr is just my GP. What did you do? My surgery is in May.

1200 seems to make much more sense..however I didn't have to do a pre op diet..I just had to lose 15 lbs.

I would use an online tool like myfitnesspal or fit day so you have a log you can easily print out and take into your dr appts.

I'm guessing that you probably eat more than 2400cal a day, so maybe start with that and stair step it down 500 cal each wee****il you are at the 1200. That way it won't be such a shock for your brain.

Drink lots and lots of water, it will help when the hunger pains kick in, and make sure you are getting lots of dense protein and veggies- that will help too!

Good Luck,

Maybe your dr is going to lower the amount every so often and is starting you kind of high? 2400 seems like a lot, but I guess before I had surgery, I wouldn't be surprised if I was eating 5000 calories a day. Is your nut in the same office as your surgeon? And was the dr that told you to eat 2400 your actual surgeon? If not, I'd call them and figure it out. If you aren't so sure about what it is and don't want to call someone, meet in the middle and do 1800 :) Good luck.

With no gastric bypass 80-100 gr of proteins may be too hard on your kidneys. I would plan only 60-70gr of proteins Evenly Divided during the day.
For long term diet - I would try to stick to min 1500 cal per day.  Much more doable.
Even post op gastric bypass - sticking to 1200 cal per day is challenging for me.

Your nutritionist is the one who will write up whether you followed the four month diet. I'd follow her plan and let her know it differs from what the surgeon told you.

Did you make all 4 months appointments now? that is what I did to make sure she could fit me in. good luck!
