Why are you here?

This is a question I ask myself frequently when posting to this forum.  I think it is more than just having RNY.  Yes that is part of it but most days I feel like I don't fit in.  Don't worry I often feel this way at the support groups i attend, yes with everything I do I still make an effort to attend 2 a month at different locations with different formats and people.

On this forum I joke and try to supply a good laugh even sometimes when it may not seem like the best of times to get a laugh, but lets face it when you are miserable a good laugh is probably what you need to start getting out of the way you feel.  With the exception od medical and complications much of the stuff we post about we just want to know we aren't the only ones.  From things like I can't drop a deuce, to I like to freaky so how long must I wait, we are looking to see we are not alone.  In reality we aren't alone, no matter how alone we may feel.

I rarely participate in the how many calories should I be eating or do you eat threads.  My diet isn't a typical post op diet.  I eat up to 3000 calories and carbs on most days, my protein intake is through the roof compared to most, and yes I do struggle to get these numbers just as much as someone who is 1 month post op.  MOst people track their numbers to make sure they are at or below their limits, where I track to make sure I can hit mine.  I eat healthy and rarely eat crap, but I do eat what others believe are empty carbs.  I eat ceral and white breads but in my life they serve a purpose. I even supplement up the wazoo!

So Why am I here?  I guess it is to show people that they can do more than they belive they can, just as when I started this process people believed I could do more than I believed.  Yeah I can run 13 miles and even do it with a partially torn Hamstring but the reality is a BUNCH of people here ave done it.  I can swim for 2 miles, but it is a lot of freaking work and I'm still not fast or good. There are people here who are faster than me and run farther than me, and I wish they would tell their stories just as I tell mine.

I didn't post that I signed up for a Half Ironman to say this is what I can do, but rather to show people that if they believe and commit then anything is possible.  I know that some have medical issues that prevent them from things but they also do what they can and I have total respect for them.

I do believe that everyone should do a 5K even if they have to walk it, because nothing feels better than proving to people who told you that there are things you couldn't do in life, that they are WRONG!.

Truth is I was the fattest kid in my group in High School I was the slowest kid and had few friends.  Thanks to the world of FB I have reconnected with many people from High School and needless to say they are shocked to see what I have been able to accomplish.  That and I ain't the Fat one anymore!

So enjoy this new lease on life and remember that your not alone and we all fight the same problems.

Cannot wait to run without my body letting me down!

I was always one of those people that said...running?? Why would anyone run for fun??? Then one evening at the track, I decided to jog a little. I was hooked! 3 weeks in to training for my first 5k, the muscle started to tear away from my shin bones. I was just carrying too much extra weight!

So yes a new lease on life is exactly what I need. I cannot wait to get my tool! You may see me in a marathon somewhere!

I feel like I've been going through the motions lately, and why I come here is:

To answer any questions I may be able to, in order to help others, and to be inspired myself, through posts such as yours!! Your post has me revved up again! :D  Thank you!

Well said! I think a lot of us are here for the same reasons. Well, that and to be inspired by people like you. It keeps us all motivated and going. Helps us set our goals for what we want to accomplish. I always think that "if they can do it, so can I." Thanks for continuing to be an inspiration.
