I was where you were two weeks after surgeru and just miserable.  What worked for me (after going to urgent care) was a LOT of miralax.....you can take it several times over the day and this helped me.  I also added stool softeners for awhile and now do fine with miralax every other day.   I tried enemas to no avail as well as MOM.  I couldnt stomach a suppository.

Good luck....this WILL end!!!!

After it happened to me I started Miralax mixed with my morning Crystal Light (couldn't taste it at all). I did this daily for about three weeks, then cut back to every other day. Now I'm doing it every three days. Things are flowing right along.

Also- make sure you get your water in - and get it in earlier in the day. Really pu**** before noon. That gives you a head start for getting the rest in.

Hopefully today will be the lucky day. This is day 4- I even got up last night in the middle of the night and took extra doses of MOM. Took colace this am. NOTHING- i don't even feel that it is close to coming out.
My husband is getting me a strong starbucks.

I am desperate!!!

Thank you everyone...who knew this is the thing that would be so painful.

Suppositories will be my next weapon.

About 2wks post op I was so backed up that I was totally miserable, I was ready to go to the ER but 2 suppositories and an enema later I wa sok. Now I take 2 to 3 stool softeners a day. So I usually don't have any problems but if I miss 2 days without having a bm I mix Miralax in my coffee. I also keep suppositories on standby (but I hardly have to use them).

I'm so sorry, I feel your pain.. I was very constipated for several months... I would go a week without going and then resort to an enema.. they work GREAT.. seems gross but it's not that bad and you get relief in minutes.. I keep some in the bathroom but haven't had to use them in a few months (knock wood!) I then started taking a probiotic everyday and that worked wonders.. And then a few months ago all the sudden I became regular without taking anything (again knock wood!) I think it's because I'm able to drink more and I try to eat more fiber.  I really hope it gets better for you, you just have to try differen things and see what work but yogurt and probiotics worked great for me!!  Good luck.

We need some fats in our diet to help things move.  Use real mayo, have a few slices of bacon...don't overdue it but it is ok.  I use real cream in my coffee.  You will find out what to add and not add.

I have to use 4 colace and Miralax daily; I have for years. Since surgery I added magnesium oxide and fibre pills. Plus a hot cup of coffee in the morning, and I'm all set.
