When are protein bars ok?
When would it be OK with whom? With me? With my doctor? With your doctor? Because they might all have different opinions. My personal opinion is that most protein bars are too high in carbs for just one month out, but if you get one that has lots of protein and very little carbs and sugar, I guess it would be better than just not getting your protein. My doctor's opinion was that protein shakes were a much better choice, especially early out. What does your doctor recommend?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.

I feel you, I'm not loving the protein shakes but I view it as a necessity because I just can't eat that much protein from food ! I know I'm not getting in my required amount so I recently started looking into protein bars myself. I am 5 weeks out and my nutritionist allows me to supplement when needed with them, but NOT on a daily basis. I was told to watch the carbs and sugar and look for at least 15g protein in it. Spent almost an hour at Giant looking and finally found a few but haven't tried them yet! Good luck
The only person that can answer this is your surgeon. Is it on his plan?
My surgeon's plan had us on liquids for three weeks and mushies for 5 weeks.... two months before solid food.
But he listed protein bars amongst the "mushy" foods.
