What is your take on chewing gum? is it bad for you ?

Sugared chewing gum won't do you any favors, so make sure to stick to sugar-free.
Also, I would be very, very cautious about chewing gum anywhere you might be distracted or have a lot of movement, ie: at the gym, running errands, etc. If you swallow it, it can cause a WHOLE heap of issues.

I've had two pieces of gum since my surgery, both while waiting at a doctor's office. The first piece I tried was from a pack of strawberry gum I bought when I wasd pre-op, and it was so saccharine sweet, I had to spit it out. It didn't taste the same.

Three times since surgery I've accidentally swallowed my gum and haven't died, plugged a hole, or anything terribly dramatic (other than peppermint burping).

I go through a pack of Extra Peppermint gum every two to three days.

We were never to chew gum, if the surgeon had to go in to remove it from our pouch, they would not be happy!!

I wasn't instructed I could never chew gum. I chew gum all the time. It's also something I use to keep from grazing on things I shouldn't.

I chew gum all the time. I can't imagine life without it. It helps to keep my mouth moist , especially during the 30 minute wait after meals. It keeps my breath fresh, and tastes darn good. I love Trident bubblegum, and just tried the new apple pie which tastes just like it without all the sugar, and calories.

I haven't swallowed gum since I was a child, but if on the off chance I did, and then again on the off chance it got stuck, I suppose it would be really uncomfortable, but I'd go to the ER, they'd take it out, send me the bill, and I'd be more careful in the future.

I can go through one or two packs of sugar free gum a day. Sometimes I just need that many. Some days I don't use any at all.

I've swallowed it accidentally once or twice with no trouble, although I wouldn't make it a habit.

It DOES give me gas, but then so does almost everything else I eat/chew.

I'm a gum chewer as well...used to chew Big Red ALL the time pre-op...now i chew Sugar Free Trident Cinnamon...havent swallowed a piece yet...

I also chew sugar free gum often, helps me to not be thirsty after my meals. My surgeon didn't say that it was off limits. I've never swallowed a piece in my life, so not sure why after RNY I'd start swallowing it LOL :)
