I have noticed the last few days that no matter how many times i gargle with listerine or brush my teeth or floss, my breath is horrible. im not sure if this is part of the surgery or if its just something i have to deal with. Its really embarrasing, because i have always been crazy about keeping my mouth clean and its driving me nuts. Anyone else dealt with this. Im 10 days postop

I don't recall why it happens but it is pretty common from what I understand. But it will go away. It lasted a few short weeks for me.

I haven't had surgery yet (March 6th), but I know every time I do a lot of protein shakes I get the bad breath.  Also, with the low carb diet, you're body is probably in Ketosis just like if you do the Atkins diet.  This will also give you bad breath.  As you are able to add different foods  eat a more balanced diet, it should resolve.

1. use a tonge scraper.
2. you can use natural pepermint oil (use a drop or so - no more than that ) - yu can get that in natural food stores.

but that is quite normal.  The smell is coming from inside. Drink pepermint tea.

It comes from the process of ketosis, burning fat. Your body not only flushes the fat out through waste but the produced gases from the process actually comes out you mouth. As your weightloss decreases and you start eating more regular foods, it will return to normal.

Good luck

Honestly I've always thought it was from the protein shakes. I had it real bad early on as well.  Even now I carry those little colgate wisp things in my purse.  It does improve, hang in there

My teeth do not feel as clean as they did before my prep diet and surgery. it's a strange feeling and I have been brushing after each meal. I'm 4 days out.

I have the same feeling. Like there is some coating on them. I have been brusing overtime to try to feel clean.

The dry, cotton mouth in the hospital was a trip. Glad that is over!

I'm a month post op and have been sparingly using sugar free mints...not sure they are okay for everyone, but I just had to get some for my buffalo breath!
