Setting myself up??
I am having surgery March 26th . I find myself thinking of all the things I want to do this summer..things I have not been able to do for many years due to my weight. I feel like I am setting myself up for dissapointment...what if I am expecting to lose more weight than is typical. I am trying to tell myself I will do those things the summer after next. I want to lose weight so bad and get on with my life.
This may or may not be a problem. What are your expectations of how much you will lose and how fast? How much do you need to lose in order to be able to do the things you want to be able to do?
Depending on how much weight you need to lose and what it is hat you are anxious to be able to do again ou are likely to be able to do SOME things but perhaps not others. I understand the impatience of wanting the weight off and to be able to enjoy activities again, but it IS important to remember that you did not gain the weight overnight and cannot expect to lose it all in just a couple of short months.

14 years out; 190 pounds lost, 165 pound loss maintained
You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I think it's really important to have realistic expectations. How much weight do you think you'll need to lose in order to do those things? And when you say you want to do them in the summer, does that mean the beginning of June or the end of August or what?
People really lose at different rates. If your surgery is the end of March, by the end of June you may have lost as much as 60 pounds or even more, or you may have lost as little as 30 pounds. And as far as I've been able to tell from being on this website for a long time, the amount that you've lost in three months does not really indicate whether or not you'll reach your goal. So it's important to celebrate each little victory but not get discouraged that it takes time to reach some goals.
