Rum and other liquors...
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
My suggestion would be to be cautious about alcohol use, especially early out from surgery. And don't use diet soda as a mixer- we aren't supposed to be drinking soda.

I'm not one of those people who was addicted to food. I just felt very ******g hungry every minute of the day. Now I don't. I have zero problems with food other than an occasional craving for something sweet (and when I reasonably fullfill that craving with a tiny serving, I'm over it!). I like pizza, used to be one of my favorite foods, but now, I am happy with a tiny bite or two of it and just want my protein.

I was thoroughly baffled, truly. Whether the "blame" is on you, or your surgeon's office -- I found it hard to beleive that any surgeon's office wouldn't have steered a patient away from drinking alcohol so early out -- especially hard liquor.
With that said, I can appreciate your desire to understand the why. I didn't get that feeling from your original post, though. You seemed only concerned on if you would dump on it or not. The potential problems with drinking shots for ANY post-op... 2 months or 2 YEARS out are significant, and much more serious on if you'll dum*****t.
Just because you don't feel you were addicted to food doesn't mean you can't become addicted to alcohol. You said it yourself.. its a liquid. You have no physical limitation on how much alchohol you can consume and shots is going to do you in very, very quickly. Aside from the risk of alcoholism, you could easily end up with alcohol poisoning.
Can you say that you never ever turned to food when you were stressed, bored or angry? Guess what.. your surgery has made it physically much more difficult to drown in food to soothe those emotions. But alchohol.. well, that's a liquid, and its one of your favorites. Can you see how easy it would be to start drinking far too often?
On top of that, alcohol slows your metabolism. You're not going to lose as much weight if you drink. There's been a number of people that have come on this board a couple of years out struggling with regain and have made statements that they are drinking too much.
I'm not some prude that never has a drink. I enjoy A beer now and then. I had one last night at my father-in-law's birthday party. But I had one. And trust me, that was enough. My sister is getting married in Vegas in six weeks. I'm hosting the bachelorette party. My husband is sincerely concerned that I could end up seriously sick or dead if I got sucked into a drinking game. I don't know about you, but I'm just not willing to risk it.
Thank you for your response.
I'm not thinking of making this a habit. I'm a parent, and so my chances to "get my drink on" are limited. But a few times a year, yeah, I'd like to enjoy some rum. If I need to dilute it to be safe, I'll find a suitable liquid.
You made a good point about alcohol poisoning. I have noticed that when I take some other medicines (Xanax, which I take PRN not daily, is an example) it hits me much faster and the drowsiness goes away much faster as well. I assume it would be the same with alcohol, so I'd take it very slow.
I've worked in detox (I'm a nurse). Avoiding addiction to whatever medications I'm prescribed and alcohol is always on my mind. I'm quite aware of myself and what I'm doing.
I have a friend coming home from Afghanistan in about a month, and I might like to go out for a drink with him.

What will most likely happen with a shot or two of rum is total instant inebriation.
I waited until I was a year and a half out for my first drink. Two swallows of wine and I was warm and fuzzy. Half a glass and I was snockered. I did not like that total loss of control, there was no happy in-between buzzed stage. I haven't had a drink since.
