After RNY when did you start to run?

I don't know if I could call myself a runner? I ran 1 half marathon I run a 5k for exercise I am a 280 lb runner who is trying to find the skinny under my fat! I trained for 6 months running 4 days a week faithfully and taking body pump3x a week spin 2x a week and doing a class called intense at the gym. I was 250 when I ran my 1st half marathon a year ago in February. I didn't have any injuries thank God. But I see what everyone is saying the fluids, nutrition, and fatigue might be a bit much.

I do have tons of self confidence and when running I loved seeing people look at me like damn that fat girl is running LOL! One day on a treadmill in the gym they have them in rows ya know how you can feel someone watching you? I turned around this lady was staring at me a runner lady and she said you have great form. I said Thanks....she said you were a runner before weren't you? I said no just trying to be one HAHA

I am going to have to remember this confidence in myself might hurt me in the long run and to take it easy....something I find hard to do. Maybe I should hold off and do the Princess Half  Marathon next Winter that is one that is on my list of ones to do!

Thanks guys!

I just started running. I went a little backwards and signed myself up for a 10k in June (go big or go home, right?).

Funny thing, the start and finish line of the 10k is within walking distance of my house.

4 weeks. Waited till I was sure I wasnt going to break anything inside, and I started back slow. I had been jogging/running for 6 months before my RNY though. I have given up running lately, havent done ANY training or any 5ks since new years day. Zumba has stolen all of my exercise time.  I should probably get back on the treadmill though! (its still snowing here) I have a 5k in a few weeks to do

i just started running like 2 weeks ago and i'll be 18 months out on tuesday (time flies!). but i was doing all the other cardio machines at the gym and classes pre-op and probably 2 months after surgery. i am just not a runner by nature (especially with the too much boobage issue) but since those have gone down i figured now would be the time to try!

You've acknowledged you will walk if need to but I will tell u something: when I do any race of any distance nobody asks if I walked any.

When training nutrition is crucial and that would prob be the biggest issue... Do what u can but don't push yourself. What's awesome is that if u love this stuff now u are going to ADORE your life next year

I ran my first 5k on 1/1/2010.

Be happy.
