I went to the doc yesterday and the PA told me that I should have lost more weight by now. that i should loose 120 in the first 6 months and that because i am so behind that i will probably never make it to my goal.  She said I should have had the douodenal switch. that it is more successful than rny with people who have over 200 pounds to loose, she said that i should only be consuming 500 calories a day and not over 23g carbs.  I left there very frustrated and dissapointed.  Why didn't they suggest the DS to me before? So i came home and ate cottage cheese for the rest of the day, I dont know if i will be able to stay under 500 calories a day, thats really not very much. She told me not to listen to what others are doing on this board too.

55 isn't GOOD ENOUGH for her??? give me a effing break. She had no business telling you that you should have had a different surgery, if that were the case wouldn't  that be between you and the doc? and WHY would the doc do a surgery on you that he didn't think would work?? she needs to keep her opinions to herself unless it is strictly medical , i bet next time you go in , she won't remember a thing she said this visit. Tell her they can do DS for free since in her great wise OPINION you should have had it in the first place...geeze some people just **** me off!!!she basically just said your doc doesn't know as much as she does !!!! I would tell your doc that !! throw her under the bus
I think you are doing great!!!

P.S. can you tell I'm on clears today ?

You lost 55 pounds!!! YAWHOOO! Dont focus so much on the weight loss, focus on following a healthy lifestyle and the weight will come off. 55 pounds in 2 months? Thats almost 28 pounds a month, thats about 1 pound a day!! We would have done anything prior to surgery to have that kind of sucess!  You have 4 months to go and if you lose weight at the rate you are than you should lose that about at your 6 month mark. Dont be so hard on yourself and dont let that doctor bring you down! Your doing great!

That PA is an idiot.

Have you had your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) tested?  RMR is the most important number of them all when it comes to caloric expenditure, it will tell you how many calories you burn per day at rest.  Once you know how that, you can tailor your caloric intake accordingly and develop a better understanding of your weight loss over time.  Without that number, you’re just guessing at how many calories you should eat and so is the PA.

Don't let it distract you....keep moving forward and see what you can adjust to help you reach your goals! Good luck!

So you're losing about a pound a day (probably more - depends on how long it took you to lose the excess gas they pumped into you in surgery),which WOULD put you at losing at least 120 pounds in 6 months.

Your PA can't do math, and sounds really grumpy.

Keep following a plan that works for YOU, and don't let her rain on your parade.

120 pounds in six months?  Some people do lose that much, but that's awfully fast weight loss.  Many people don't lose that fast and still reach their goal weights.

I would ask your surgeon, and the PA, why they didn't advise you to have DS if they believe that would have been a better choice for you.

And under 500 calories a day?  That totally doesn't sound right to me.  How could you even get enough protein with so few calories?  I would speak to your surgeon and a registered dietician, because her advise doesn't sound right to me.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

If I were you, I'd put a call into the doctor. If you have to leave a message for a call back, just explain you have something pressing to discuss with him/her and leave it at that. I'd tell him/her what happened.

It's a physician's assitant. Not your NUT. Not your primary care physician. I'd be pissed. You just had this major life change and they're going to sit there and say you're not doing it good enough?

Get him. And his little dog, too.

My doctor wants his patients to average 650 calories a day and around 70 grams of protein. It is doable. I have either a protein shake or bar at 6. 9:30 is usually a string cheese. 12:30 and 3:30 is 3 oz chili or Turkey or chicken. 6 is usually scrambled eggs or chicken, or roast beef. Sometime I have a surgery free fudgecicle for a snack.

That still gives me enough calorie to have another shake during the day mixed in with my decaf coffee.
