Vitamin Motivation

well, from personal experience...
i am 7 years post op and NEVER could commit to my supplements. right now i am trying to recover from severely symptomatic iron anemia and vitamin b12 and vitamin d deciciencies. it is scarey and extremely unpleasant. i missed about 2 weeks of work.
i have been taking supplements for 2 months without much improvement in labs results, although i do feel a tiny bit better physically and mentally.
so, at this point i may have to consider IV iron...i could also talk to my doctor about b12 shots.
vitamins arent just a whim or merely a good idea...like they may be to the general population. our bodies have been altered puposely to malabsorb. and that includes our vitamins. our bodies NEED these elements to function properly.
nerve and heart damage (not to mention mental-depression, confusion) from deficiencies can be permanent...and catching up from a deficiency is difficult.
i would seriously advise you to take your supplements on a regular basis, and for the rest of your life.
i know this wont be easy...even with my current health issues it is hard for me to take them some days. but i am really trying to get this organized so it does not become too overwhelming. i fill pill cases and make checklists.
good luck!

I'm still new, and tend to forget one here or there, but I have accepted them as part of my new way of life. I know this is something I will have to do forever, and I intend to do just thst. Change and do things a new way... forever...
I don't want to be sick or vitamin deficient, so therfore, I do what I need to do.

I take them at the same time I take my other meds. I have them in one of those mediset pill boxes all laid out for me. And I match them up with meals. I take a handful of vites and pills with breakfast, a handful with dinner, a handful with my bedtime snack. I don't like doing it. I just know what will happen if I don't, and I've made it part of my daily routine.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
