Since my surgery I have lost around 50 pounds...lots more to go, but I use to never have to use the restroom as often as I do now!!! There are some days when I don't get my 70 ounces of water but even on those days I am using the restroom just as much it seems! I swear my bladder must be shrinking!!! Lol!!!

I am a year out, down almost 110lbs. We eliminate a lot FLUID from our bodies - way more than what we drink. This is how your body loses some of the weight. So you probably are going WAY more than usual, and you're just now noticing. I wish MY bladder was shrinking - my bladder has PROLAPSED since my surgery. I have a little stress incontinence, but I'm a runner, and that's par for the course. So I wasn't even aware there was an issue. The GYN said it looked like I'd had a hysterectomy (I haven't) because my bladder was that far out of place. She wanted to write me a prescription for overactive bladder, but we can't take that medication because one of the side effects is - dehydration. Yeah, not going to work. And the other treatment is a mesh bladder sling; watch some late night TV and you'll see those infomercials from lawfirms that are recalling the mesh material because of complications. Yeah, again. Not going to work! Me and my wet running tights will deal with it, thanks!

If you are eating healthier than maybe you are consuming less sodium so you aren't retaining water. Also you might be sweating less or not losing as much fluid when you exhale.  I find water goes through me faster than anything else and makes if feel more urgent than other liquids. Weird huh?

Research suggests that when the stomach is severed during surgery we all lose our ability to regulate our fluid/salt balance the way we used to...in essence, we are all put on a lifelong "fluid pill" because we will urinate even if we need the fluid. This is one reason why our blood pressure drops after surgery and why many people can come off their blood pressure medicine right away. This is why it's imperative for all post-surgery to drink drink drink. :)
