Ok picked up my machine and as I was driving home I thought of this. What do you do when your really congested? I get bad allergies and head colds too do you use the machine? Does it make the congestion any better due to the humidifier? Thanks

With a stuffy nose and head it is hard to sleep with the cpap on. I have learned how to adjust sleeping with a cold but it is tougher. Through time you will learn how to adjust your breathing through your mask with the machine on. I live by my sleep apnea machine.
Hope this was a little helpful.

I've used a CPAP for several years. Usually if I have a cold and am stuffed up, I don't use it as I usually start draining in the middle of the night and then I have a disastorous mess to try to clean up. Otherwise I use it every night. Yes mine has the humidifier, but it has never helped with a cold.

The humidifer will definetly help with dry mouth and nose. Of course as well as your breathing throughout the night

Afrin works to clear your airways if you can't breathe through your nose.  I had such a hard time adjusting to the nasal pillows that if it had not been for the Afrin (only take for 3 days or risk addiction), I would not have survived.

I never wore mine when I had a cold, if I did, I would usually end up with a sinus infection.

Please note....this may have been an excuse becaue I hate to wear it, but it did seem to coincide.  I never had sinus infections before.

Michelle,
What I found works best for me, is to put about a tablespoon of liquid Vick's, in the water chamber.  It helps ALOT.  You just need to clean the chamber each night, cause it can get a bit slimy.  Good Luck!!
