I had surgery March 26th. For about a week now I have been getting my 60 grams of protein from eating rather than drinking the shakes.  I don't ever feel hungry or full..I just eat because I am supossed to.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner with a greek yogurt once or twice a day to up my protein level.  How long do I need to wait after eating a yogurt before eating..lets say chicken.

I eat about every three hours.  That keeps me feeling full, keeps my blood sugar steady and makes sure I get enough calories and protein.

That's about how often I do too. Last night my daughter had a softball game and I didn't get home till after nine..so I was trying to get my dinner in and still needed a yogurt to up the protein amount for the day. I ate the yogurt while the fish was cooking and then ate the fish about an hour afrer..I was miserable. Just trying to figure out how long it takes stuff to move out of my stomach to make room for something else if I'm short of time and protein. After last night..I'm kinda thinking if I'm short on both again, I'll just go short on the protein for the day.
P.S, Thanks Kelly for answering..I am on this site all the time and I think you have lots and lots of knowledge..I always hope you see my stuff and give me input. I value everyones input but especially look forward to what you have to say.

Kelly,
I am not quite 2 weeks out from my RNY. I have lost 14 pounds to date. When you say you eat every three hours, does that also mean protein shakes or foods that are considered full liquids....i.e. puddings? I do not always get signals that I am full or hungry. I am still having trouble getting all my protein and fluids in between meals
Thanks

Yeah, I count my protein shakes as a meal.  Or full liquids.

I also eat about every three to five hours. It keeps my blood sugar normal. I had a bunch of test last week and they discovered that food empties from my stomach faster than normal, even for a post of. Yet at about the fifteen to twenty minute mark in the digestion process it slows very very much.

So I try to eat every few hours. If I forget or get too busy then I end up with the type of hunger I had pre-op. That starving i'm so hungry I can't stand to wait to fix something. I'll end up eating something while standing in front of the fridge. My sugar drops so low i have to have something immediately.

Met my first goal, met my second goal, met my surgeons goal. Now I have a new goal!

I am only 5 weeks out and not in a regular routine yet.  I will ask the veterans to comment on if I am doing things right or not:

Wake up - take medicines and vitamins
Breakfast (9ish)- 30 mins after meds and vitamins.  11 oz Premier Nutrition 30g of protein shake (20-45 mins to finish)
Lunch (1ish) - 5 oz of Cottage cheese (20 g of protein)
Dinner (6-7ish) - 2.5 oz of tuna with light mayo or eggs with cheese
Dessert - sugar free ice pop

All day long  (between meals so not going more than a few hours without protein)- 32 oz of Powerade Zero mixed with 20 g of protein

Should I being eating more?  I don't feel hungry and am losing weight quickly.  I intend on adding some vegies next week as per the plan.

i would leave it for now. i'm just adding a 4th meal now because i feel i'm not getting enough calories during the day, leaving me searching for food at night (and we know how that tends to end). also i'm trying to restart my weight loss so i'm hoping adding calories will do it, since cutting them didn't.

as long as you're getting your protein in at this stage you should be good.

I have been eating 6 times a day since the very beginning, and I am almost 5 years out.  Eating more frequently helps keep your blood sugar more stable and your metabolism up throughout the day.
