Anyone take Celebrex?

Robin I have spoken to a few RNY patients who also received prescriptions for Celebrex.  The surgeon told them it was ok to take.  As we already know each surgeon has their own protocol and their own way of looking at things.  I figure if I trusted him/her enough to rearrange my insides, I can believe what they tell me.  The patients who take Celebrex continue to take Pepcid AC or comparable meds.  It has already been a few years with no negative consequences.  .  I was recently prescribed Tramadol for back and shoulder pain and it is working well.

Hope you get some answers from futher testing.

I trust my doctors and believe what they tell me when it comes to facts.  but when it comes to something like whether or not the potential benefit of a medication is worth the risk, that's not a fact.  That's an opinion.  Just because I trust my doctors, that does not mean I always agree with them about what risks I am willing to take.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

My PCP over over twenty years, and my RNY surgeon, Dr. Robin Blackstone, who is also the president of the ASMBS, have both okayed Celebrex for me, taken with a PPI. I use it only as a last resort, and it's to be taken on occasion, not regularly.

I was very strict in heeding the warnings about NSAIDs I read on here for a long time, but I have now placed my trust in my doctors because they are the MDs, not me. I believe the use of NSAIDs is a personal choice, just as how compliant one stays after WLS. My MDs don't want me hooked on narcotics, and neither do I.

Thank u both for the new info. I do trust my surgeon 100%
He's very well known and trusted. It's not him that I don't trust, it's more myself. I just gave these new pains and it scares me. I tell my surgeon I'm in pain and of course he wants to try to relieve my pain anyway he possibly can. I'm still thinking I better get an MRI just to make sure there's no other underlying reason for my pain. After that and if my surgeon still feels that I need to take it then I'll probably trust him and take it. I'd also like to try the exercises that Lora was telling me about to see if that would help. I'm all about trying natural remidies before meds. Either way something has to change soon because I can't just do nothing and live with this pain. Just please wish me luck and prayers are appreciated. Robin.

I have been on Celebrex for most of the last three years due to back pain and I have been just fine.  I don't take anything else with it.  It has helped tremendously...well that and the steriod injections I started a week ago.

Good luck :)
