In the meantime, perhaps you can try substituting similar items for the items on the menu you were given. Like if the sample menu has two ounces of chicken and 1/4 cup of green beans, try two ounces of another meat and 1/4 cup of another veggie.

for me, and possibly some others, it's just not that easy to do - i have found that i tend to eat for reasons other than physical hunger. this has been extremely difficult to change, and i'm seeking outside help for the issue.
i say this, and put myself up for embarrassment lol, because there are probably others out there who do the same things i do - and for similar reasons - and have a very hard time "just following the rules" so to speak..
it's not about willpower - i have none when it comes to this, apparently. at any rate, just wanted to throw that out there!
And I would guess a large number of people that have WLS eat for reasons other than physical hunger, and yes, it is very hard to change that. I get that. And I commend you for getting help with it. I don't think you need to be embarrassed about it. It's kind of like that's just part of learning to use your new tool so that it will work like it's supposed to.
You're right, it's not always as easy as "just following the rules," but for the most part, those rules are a good starting place.
