Calcium Petites

I am taking the calcium petites.  I was told by my surgeon that I could start eatin pureed food, including scrambled eggs and cheese.  I can eat cottage cheese without problem.  I tried to eat scrambled eggs and they felt like they were in my throat and I guess this is what it feels like when something gets "hung" but it felt horrible.  Anyhow, I have been taking the calcium petites with minimal problems but recently it feels like they are not dissolving fast enough and it feels like something is in my throat.  I have tried splitting them and crushing them but it doesn't seem to make a difference.  Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

i'm not sure how far out you are (early it seems like) but i wasn't allowed to take pills you swallow until i was like 3 months out? i had to do chewables before that

i take the petites now with no problems
maybe ask your doc about switching to chewables for some time?

good luck!

I'm wondering if the feeling you're having might actually be a sign of a stricture.  That would not actually be causing things to get caught in your throat, though, but in the stoma between the pouch and small intestine.  There is no reason anything should get caught in your throat; the surgeon did not do anything to your throat during your operation.  But anyway, if you keep having that feeling, I would call your surgeon.

In the meantime, you can dissolve the calcium tablets in your protein shake or in crystal light or something and just drink it, if that's easier.

I would switch to chewables for a bit - I think it may have been once I could tolerate all solids that I switched over to pills. Celebrate (Calcet creamys) & BA chews are pretty yummy! Also, wondering if the "something in my throat" thing can just be inflamation? I think I felt that way every time I ingested much of anything for the first month post-op, then things seemed to loosen up. Like Kelly said, nothing was done to your throat but having your whole system inflamed and PO'd is understandable....

It looks like you are just a couple of weeks out? I take the same pill, but with milk and I have no problem. I was taking pills almost from the day home. I did chewable vitamins for awhile, because I had bought them, but when I found the smaller calicum I started those around 4 weeks out. My regular meds I took from the day I came home. I tried opening them and putting them on yogurt... it was bad.
