Would someone please post this for "newstartforme". (She blocked me)

She was quite emphatic that her Dr. (Carlos Ferrari from TX) said it was o.k. to take small sips while eating.

Perhaps someone could refer her to the "Resources"..."life after surgery" section.

It discusses drinking while eating.

I took a look at that website and at their do's and don'ts. In the don't it states:

? Drink 30 minutes before or after a meal

Height:5'1.5 RNY:11/30/11 HW:307 SW:234 CW:136 GW:140 (LOST 73 Lbs. PRE-OP)

Yes it does, also says:

"Never drink water or any beverage during or within 30 minutes before or after meals."

Sometimes at the end of meal, i would have a couple bites of fruit, like grapes, pineapple, etc. to help moist my mouth.  That was suggested by my NUT.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

How far out is newstartforme? I have a friend who, at six mos post op was told to drink with his meals because he'd lost too much. I know a few other people who were given that advice as well.

Otherwise, nope! No drinking and eating at the same time.

A month ago basically, March 22. Just started on soft foods.

Regarding the advice your friend was given......If you drank with your meal the food would be pushed through faster and you would get less nutrition, wouldn't you lose even more? ...Plus experience dumping syndrome?

How would you get less nutrition?  Most nutrients, including calories, are absorbed in the small intestine.  The food would just get there faster.

You're right. It's not nutrition is it? - it's the feeling of being full. Gets there faster and you feel less full and can eat more.
I was just reading about people who lose too much who are suggested to "break the rules" so they can snack more in between meals.
Dumping Syndrome can't be good for the health though.
