Off Topic: Spider/ Varicose Veins
I've been looking into fixing my legs...The spider and varicose veins are really bugging me now that i'm starting to wear shorts more and especially since summer is coming, i'm really looking into getting them removed. I have Kaiser and they charge $250 for consultation that will go toward the procedure totaling $500. If you don't like the consulation you don't get your $250 back, so I really want to make sure I want to do this.
Has anyone had their spider/varicose veins removed? Did you go through Kaiser? And how was it?
Thank You!

If they stick out badly, the only thing you can have done is have the vein removed IF it is not so enlarged in order to carry blood flow that other veins cannot. In that case, they cannot remove them. They will likely need to do ultrasounds first to determine what your circulation is like.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Treating spider veins is one thing and treating varicose veins is quite another, if you are talking about true varicose veins where the vein is raised and tortuous (bumpy and kind of twisted looking). Spider veins are much easier to treat. I know two people who had the spider veins treated. It was 2 sessions for one person and three sessions for the other (several weeks, maybe a month apart) and both had the fluid injections. They had to wear support stockings for several weeks. One of them had significant bruising and pain and the other one did not. One got rid of most of the ones treated and the other gone either got rid of them entirely or they were much smaller and lighter.
I look into having some varicose veins treated because they are large and often painful. The vascular surgeon I consulted indicated that they could take care of some of the smaller ones, but the ones that bother me most are veins that are enlarged to provide collateral blood flow around areas where other veins are damaged from past DVTs and he did not want to touch them. He was concerned about the impact on my circulation.
I would encourage you to make sure the treatment is done by a vascular surgeon if you are planning to have more than just spider veins treated. There can be some pretty significant complications if the doctor is not properly trained both to evaluate the veins and do the treatment (and knw when NOT to do any treatment).
